Engineering Technician The Engineering Technician determines the equipment required for the assembly and testing of actuators, motors, and gears for both internal and external customers. This role designs and develops test stands and fixtures, supports cross-functional teams, and ensures that all assembled hardware meets established quality and performance standards. The position combines hands-on assembly and testing work with documentation, calibration, and continuous improvement activities within a manufacturing and engineering environment. Responsibilities Determine the equipment and tooling required for the assembly and testing of actuators, motors, gears, and related hardware for various product applications. Work cooperatively with engineering, sales, manufacturing, suppliers, and customers to support technical needs and resolve issues related to assembly and testing. Support the test equipment requirements for each product application, ensuring appropriate test setups and configurations. Design and develop test stands, fixtures, and related hardware to support assembly, calibration, and qualification testing. Check the electrical and mechanical performance of completed assemblies to ensure compliance with quality standards, making necessary adjustments to meet quality goals. Perform visual inspections of materials and components before and after assembly to identify defects or non-conformances. Assist in the creation, refinement, and implementation of assembly procedures and work instructions to promote consistency and quality. Participate in the design of testing methodologies and perform testing activities in accordance with engineering specifications and procedures. Complete and maintain all required documentation for testing performed, including test results, configurations, and any deviations. Set up calibration test conditions by interpreting calibration procedures, engineering specifications, schematics, and related technical documents. Diagnose calibration issues and develop or refine calibration procedures to improve accuracy and repeatability. Issue Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) when non-conforming product is identified during assembly or testing and support follow-up actions to address root causes. Essential Skills Minimum of 3 years of experience in an engineering technician, test technician, or similar hands-on technical role. Strong electrical and mechanical aptitude with the ability to work on electromechanical assemblies such as actuators, motors, and gears. Proficiency with assembly processes, including the use of hand tools, measurement devices, and test equipment. Experience using oscilloscopes for electrical testing, troubleshooting, and verification of performance. Knowledge of manufacturing processes and methods relevant to assembly and testing of mechanical and electromechanical products. Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and related technical documentation. Thorough understanding of multi-level Bills of Material (BOMs) and their use in assembly and configuration control. Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) in accordance withANSI Y14.5M.
Ability to perform visual inspections and functional checks to ensure compliance with quality standards. Strong documentation skills to accurately record test setups, results, and non-conformances. Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including engineering, manufacturing, and quality. Additional Skills & Qualifications Associate degree in Engineering or a closely related technical discipline. Experience in aerospace or a highly regulated industry is highly desired. Familiarity with certification and qualification testing in accordance with DO-160 and/orMIL-STD-810
standards. working with complex, precision electromechanical systems. Experience supporting continuous improvement of assembly and test procedures. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to diagnose and resolve calibration and test issues. Comfort working with customers and suppliers on technical topics and test requirements. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Rockford, IL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $35.00/hr.
