Make a Difference Under the direction of the Surgical Services Leadership Team, this position coordinates decontamination and sterile processing of all instrumentation and non-sterile supplies in the operating room setting. Will work with other Operating Room personnel in a team focused, effective and efficient manner to accomplish the responsibilities of the decontamination/sterile processing area. Will be responsible for the care and maintenance of all instrumentation. Will practice effective customer service by demonstrating an attitude of service and responsiveness toward co-workers, physicians and vendors; acting in a professional manner while maintaining confidentiality of information. Your Exceptional Skills and Qualifications
    Instrument Technician Duties:
    Responsible for selecting and assembling quality instruments into specified instrument sets. Process instruments, including decontamination, checking sets, wrapping and sterilization. Check the OR Surgery Schedule for instruments needed on a daily basis and coordinate borrowing set(s) if needed. Know procedure for recall of instrument(s) or instrument set(s) from the OR. Serve as a resource person for the OR staff concerning instrument sets and sterilization techniques. Keep OR staff updated on instrument status (i.e., receiving from other OR, in the sterilizer, arriving by courier, etc.). Respond to emergency situations immediately (i.e., break in power, recalls, instruments needed for OR cases not scheduled).
      Department Duties:
      Train personnel in instrument duties, decontamination, checking and assembly of sets, wrapping and sterilization of sets. Update the OR schedule throughout the day.
        Record Keeping:
        Keep all records of sterilization, including Biologicals, DART tests and implant biologicals. Maintain a record of all instruments out for repair and when returned. Mark set(s) accordingly.
          Communication & Relationships:
          Maintain communication and cooperative relationship with internal and external customers, including: Community Surgery Center employees and Medical Staff, Community Hospitals Indianapolis departments, and Vendors and Manufacturers.
            Quality/Quality Improvement:
            Perform continual preventive maintenance care on all instruments.

            • High School Diploma or GED equivalent is required.
            • Certification (CRCST or CBSPD) preferred, but required within 1 year of hire.
