Overview The Fiber Splicer is responsible for installing, splicing, testing, and troubleshooting fiber optic cable across aerial, underground, and inside plant environments. This role ensures fiber networks are constructed and maintained in accordance with company standards, client specifications, and industry best practices. The ideal candidate brings strong technical expertise, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in dynamic field environments. Key Responsibilities Perform fiber optic splicing for single-mode and multi-mode fiber Conduct fusion splicing and mechanical splicing as required Prepare fiber cables for splicing, including stripping, cleaving, and cleaning fibers Read and interpret splice prints, construction drawings, and work orders Test fiber using OTDR, power meters, and light sources to ensure signal integrity Troubleshoot and repair fiber faults, outages, and damaged cables Install fiber enclosures, splice cases, patch panels, and cabinets Accurately label and document splices, fiber counts, and test results Maintain splice trailers, tools, and testing equipment Follow all safety protocols, OSHA requirements, and company policies Collaborate with construction crews, engineers, and project managers Complete daily reports and as-built documentation Required Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent; technical training preferred Strong knowledge of fiber optic cable types, splicing methods, and testing procedures Experience with aerial, underground, and inside plant (OSP/ISP) environments Proficiency with fusion splicing equipment and fiber testing tools (OTDR, power meter) Ability to read and interpret fiber maps, splice diagrams, and construction prints Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills Valid driver's license and reliable transportation Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physically demanding tasks Willingness to work overtime, on-call shifts, and emergency restoration work Preferred Qualifications 2+ years of experience as a Fiber Splicer or similar telecommunications role Experience with ribbon splicing (preferred but not required) Certifications such as CFOT (Certified Fiber Optic Technician) OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification Manufacturer-specific splicing or testing certifications Work Environment / Additional Information Field-based role across Indianapolis and South Bend markets Travel required within a 1-2 hour radius between project locations Mix of business-as-usual (BAU) work and project-based assignments, including large network builds Work performed in outdoor environments, including aerial and underground conditions Participation in emergency restoration efforts as needed Strong emphasis on safety, teamwork, and quality execution Compensation $25
