Automation Technician Job Description The Automationl Technician supports a high-volume manufacturing operation by ensuring that all production equipment, conveyor systems, and automated machinery run safely, reliably, and efficiently. This role combines hands-on electrical and mechanical maintenance with troubleshooting of PLC-controlled and robotic equipment, contributing directly to reduced downtime and continuous improvement across the facility. Responsibilities Perform preventative and reactive maintenance on production equipment and conveyor systems to maximize uptime and equipment reliability. Troubleshoot and repair electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Diagnose and resolve issues on PLC-controlled equipment, with a focus on Mitsubishi PLCs, to restore and optimize machine performance. Support robotic troubleshooting activities, primarily on Fanuc robots, to maintain consistent and safe automated operations. Assist with equipment changeovers, upgrades, and continuous improvement projects to enhance productivity and process efficiency. Conduct electrical troubleshooting on industrial equipment, including wiring, sensors, and control components. Perform mechanical repairs and adjustments, including fabrication work for occasional projects or repairs as needed. Additional Skills & Qualifications PLC knowledge, including a basic understanding of logic and ladder diagrams. Fabrication experience for occasional projects or equipment repairs. Experience supporting conveyor-based production lines in a manufacturing setting. Education in Maintenance Technology or Engineering is welcome. Equivalent hands-on industrial maintenance experience will also be considered in place of formal education. Why Work Here? Work Environment This position operates in a manufacturing facility with conveyor-based production lines and automated equipment, including PLC-controlled machinery and Fanuc robots. The role follows a 1st shift schedule, Monday through Friday from 5:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., with overtime required every other Saturday as production needs dictate. The workday includes two paid 10-minute breaks and one unpaid 30-minute lunch. The environment is hands-on and industrial, with regular use of electrical and mechanical tools, test equipment, and fabrication equipment. Employees should be prepared to work around moving machinery and conveyors while following safety procedures and wearing appropriate personal protective equipment as required. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Lafayette, IN. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $32.00/hr.
