Job Title:
Engineering Technician Job Description The Engineering Technician will build and test prototype mobile robots in close collaboration with design and test engineers. This role focuses on hands-on electro-mechanical prototyping, test execution, and data collection to support product development, validation, and failure analysis. The position is ideal for someone who enjoys working directly with complex robotic and automated systems and contributing to an innovative and growing robotics organization. Responsibilities Build and test prototype mobile robots in collaboration with design and test engineers. Build and implement test tools, fixtures, and test facilities to support product development and validation. Instrument systems with sensors and measurement devices and collect test data for development and failure analysis investigations. Execute product validation and verification tests in both field and laboratory environments. Meticulously log test data, observations, and outcomes, and communicate results clearly and promptly to the engineering team. Debug mechanical and electrical issues on prototype hardware and recommend practical, effective solutions. Perform mechanical and electromechanical assembly, including motor assembly and repair, wiring, soldering, and instrumentation of robotic and automated systems. Use engineering drawings to guide assembly, troubleshooting, and rework of complex systems. Operate test and diagnostic equipment such as oscilloscopes and other measurement tools to support troubleshooting and verification. Run software scripts and test routines, including in Linux-based environments, to execute automated tests and collect data. Support a small team of engineers by preparing test setups, maintaining prototype hardware, and ensuring test readiness. Travel occasionally as needed to support field testing or other project-related activities. Essential Skills Minimum 7 years of experience as an Engineering Technician in a product development environment. Experience working with complex electromechanical products, robotics, or automation. Strong hands-on aptitude and comfort in a highly practical, "roll-up-your-sleeves" role. Proficiency in mechanical assembly, including assembly of motors and other mechanical components. Proficiency in electromechanical assembly, including wiring, soldering, and instrumentation. Ability to troubleshoot and debug complex mechanical, electrical, and electromechanical systems. Ability to read and interpret mechanical and electrical engineering drawings. Experience with testing and validation of complex systems, including data collection and analysis. Familiarity with oscilloscopes and other electronic test equipment for measurement and debugging. Experience working with robots, robotic systems, or automated equipment. Comfort working with engineering teams and communicating technical findings clearly in both written and verbal form. Additional Skills & Qualifications High school diploma or vocational technical school diploma required. Associate's degree in a technical discipline preferred. Experience with CAD tools such as SolidWorks and AutoCAD. Experience using mills, lathes, and welding equipment. Experience using woodworking tools for building fixtures or test setups. Experience running software scripts to execute tests. Familiarity with Linux operating systems. Familiarity with scripting languages such as Python and Bash. Experience with data analysis related to test results and system performance. Background in robotics, automation, or similar fields is highly desirable. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to recommend practical design or process improvements. Willingness to travel occasionally for field tests or project needs. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Wilmington, MA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $50.00/hr.
