Job Description

Information and Technology Services (ITS) is looking for a Drafter to join the Infrastructure Drafting team within ITS. You will prepare new and revise existing telecommunication drawings using CAD technology per request and specification of engineers to detail their design for installation by field technicians. Collaborate with engineers, maintain drawing record files, databases and reports. Support maintenance and performance evaluation of CAD equipment and assist engineering staff with field verification. Provide technical support to engineering staff on graphic standards, cross referencing content and equipment use. You will report to the Records and OSP Project Manager. Prepare new and revise existing telecommunication drawings using CAD technology per request and specification of engineers to detail their design for installation by field technicians. Collaborate with engineers and other teams to maintain accuracy and minimize duplication or rework. Maintain drawing record files, databases and reports. Support maintenance and performance evaluation of CAD equipment. Assist engineering staff with field verification to document existing facilities. Provide technical support to engineering staff on graphic standards, cross referencing content and equipment use. Contribute to the development of new and modification of existing standards, processes and CAD customizations. Collaborate with team members and departmental teams to understand service improvement requests and opportunities. Support service enhancement projects that involve resolution and quality improvements by identifying and quantifying CAD requirements, delineating the gaps between these requirements and the capabilities of existing technology and resources, and recommending improvements. Develop and edit technical support documentation ensuring accuracy and comprehensiveness High School degree/GED, or equivalent combination of education, certification, and experience Minimum of two years' experience in a drafting role requiring timeliness, service, organization, prioritization, and working independently to successfully prepare drawings using computer aided design technology Demonstrated experience in interpreting blueprints and understanding changes, edits and additions to the prints. Demonstrated knowledge of basic Architecture, Engineering and Civil drafting Demonstrated ability to leverage appropriate resources and technical tools to perform day-to-day support tasks. Demonstrated proficiency with current computer technology and applications (e.g. word processing, spreadsheet, and collaboration applications). Ability to meet the requirements of driving a U-M vehicle. Proficiency in the use of AutoCAD software package Demonstrated understanding of AutoCAD customizations Proficiency in the application of Telecommunications drafting standards Basic Knowledge of Geographic Information Systems May require some work during non-business hours and on weekends. The physical requirements of this position will include the ability to move plotter supplies weighing up to 30 lbs. safely from storage and install into various plotters within the building.
