Summary:
Powertrain Technician - BEV Drive System & Range Extender Supports the development, modification, and diagnostic work for battery-electric drive system components (e-motor, inverter, gearbox, HV distribution) and range extender generator systems (engine-generator, fuel system, cooling, harnessing). Executes mechanical and electrical changes on rigs, dynos, and development vehicles. Ensures high-quality, safe, and traceable hardware readiness for engineering and testing teams. Key Responsibilities:
Perform hardware modifications, builds, and rework for both BEV and REX propulsion components, including: o E-motors, inverters, gearboxes, HV junctions, LV harnessing o Generator engines, generator inverters, starter systems, fuel subsystems o Cooling modules and thermal plumbing for both propulsion domains o Suspension component, wheels and tires Execute mechanical assembly/disassembly, torque procedures, alignment tasks, and component replacements per engineering specifications. Build and modify wiring harnesses (crimping, soldering, pinning, continuity checks) for prototype systems. Support dyno, bench, and vehicle test setups, including instrumentation (temperature/pressure/current/vibration) and pre-test mechanical/electrical readiness checks. Conduct basic diagnostics (CAN monitoring, HVIL checks, fault code capture, oscilloscope/multimeter testing) to support quick issue resolution. Adhere to strict high-voltage safety procedures, fuel handling protocols, and lab safety requirements; maintain a clean and safe working environment. Document all hardware changes, part serials, build configurations, and test setup states with high accuracy and traceability. Collaborate closely with powertrain, controls, calibration, and HIL engineers to ensure timely and reliable test execution. Qualifications:
3-7+ years experience as a powertrain, EV, hybrid, or propulsion technician in development or testing environments. Strong hands-on skills in mechanical assembly, rotating machines, electrical integration, and prototype harness work. Ability to interpret mechanical drawings, wiring diagrams, and engineering change requests. Experience with HV systems, fuel systems, and prototype-level safety requirements. HV2/HV3 certification or willingness to achieve it (preferred). KPIs:
Hardware change accuracy, build quality, and documentation completeness. On-time support of test requests and minimal retest due to technician-level issues. Safety compliance and zero HV/fuel-related incidents. Consistent test bench/dyno/vehicle readiness. Benefits:
