Job Description

Job Overview We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Instrument Journeyman to join our dynamic maintenance team. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work on complex instrumentation systems within a manufacturing or industrial environment. As an Instrument Journeyman, you will be responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing a wide range of instrumentation equipment. Your expertise will ensure optimal operation of control systems, sensors, calibration devices, and electrical components, contributing directly to the efficiency and safety of our operations. This position emphasizes hands-on field service work and requires a proactive approach to problem-solving, technical excellence, and customer service. Responsibilities Install, calibrate, troubleshoot, and repair instrumentation systems including sensors, calibration devices, vision inspection systems, and programmable logic controllers (PLCs). Interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, technical manuals, and AutoCAD drawings to accurately perform maintenance tasks. Conduct preventive maintenance on instrumentation equipment to minimize downtime and ensure reliable operation. Perform calibration of precision measuring instruments such as ohmmeters and other electrical testing tools to maintain system accuracy. Diagnose issues related to hydraulics, high voltage systems, low voltage controls, and distributed control systems (DCS). Support field service activities by providing technical expertise during commissioning or troubleshooting in manufacturing environments. Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities, inspections, repairs, and system modifications in compliance with safety standards. Collaborate with electrical and mechanical teams to optimize system performance and implement improvements aligned with operational goals. Qualifications Proven experience as an industrial electrician or instrument technician with strong knowledge of hydraulics, sensors, calibration techniques, and schematics. Familiarity with industrial maintenance practices including troubleshooting programmable logic controllers (PLCs), vision inspection systems, CNC machinery, and Calypso software. Hands-on experience working with high voltage (HV) and low voltage electrical systems in industrial settings. Mechanical knowledge related to manufacturing equipment and the ability to interpret AutoCAD drawings for installation or repair projects. Strong understanding of distributed control systems (DCS), sensors, calibration procedures, and precision measuring instruments such as ohmmeters. Experience working in military or industrial environments is a plus; excellent customer service skills are essential for effective field service support. Ability to read schematics accurately and utilize measurement tools effectively for troubleshooting complex instrumentation issues. Knowledge of safety protocols related to high voltage systems and industrial maintenance standards is required.
