BIC Field engineer

Wilmington, NC onsite
Job Type:
Long term role A BIC engineer is basically a field-driven OSP designer focused on private property—collecting accurate site data, coordinating with customers, and producing compliant entrance and routing designs. Daily Tasks of a
BIC Engineer:
Fielding & Site Surveys:
Visit customer property (MDUs, businesses, campuses).
Identify:
Building entrance locations. Path from ROW to building. Obstacles (fences, concrete, utilities, easements) Take measurements, photos, and notes for design input.
Field Data Documentation :
Capture field conditions using: Sketches / redlines. Digital tools or photos. Ensure data is accurate and matches client standards. OSP Design Support (Private Property): Design or assist with: Fiber/copper routing (aerial, buried, underground). Conduit paths and entrance facilities. Validate that layouts are feasible based on field conditions.
Customer Coordination:
Meet with property owners/managers.
Confirm:
Access points. Equipment placement. Preferred routing options. Communicate requirements clearly between customer and engineering team.
QA & Compliance Checks:
Verify designs meet: Client standards (AT&T, etc.). Engineering guidelines. Perform self-QA to ensure accuracy before submission.
System Updates & Deliverables:
Input data into client systems (e.g., Field Studio, WALDO).
Submit:
Field notes. Markups. Supporting documentation.
Team Coordination:
Work with: Designers. PMs. Construction teams. Provide clarifications on field conditions and design intent.
Key Skills Required:
Technical /
Engineering:
OSP design knowledge (fiber + copper). Understanding of construction methods and standards. Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
Fielding & Data Accuracy:
Strong attention to detail. Accurate measurement and documentation. Ability to translate real-world conditions into design input.
Tools & Systems:
Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, etc.). Client systems (e.g., WALDO, ARAMIS, Field Studio). Basic CAD / drafting familiarity (commonly expected).
Communication & Coordination:
Customer-facing communication skills. Ability to explain technical constraints simply. Cross-team collaboration (engineering, PM, construction). Work Style /
Soft Skills:
Self-motivated, able to work independently. Strong organization and task prioritization. Quality-focused (self-checking work for compliance).
