Job Description

Job Title:
Sr Manufacturing Engineering / Automation Technician Job Description This role focuses on maintaining, troubleshooting, and optimizing automated manufacturing equipment to support high-quality production and scientific innovation. You will work with advanced automation technologies, including robotics, PLCs, SCADA systems, and precision manufacturing equipment, to ensure reliable operation and continuous improvement of manufacturing processes. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to drive process efficiency, uphold regulatory and quality standards, and minimize equipment downtime. Responsibilities Maintain a safe work environment by following established standards, procedures, and applicable legal regulations. Perform immediate corrective and preventive maintenance on manufacturing production equipment to minimize downtime and ensure reliable operation. Identify, document, and implement opportunities for continuous improvement in manufacturing processes and equipment performance. Engage with Maintenance and Engineering teams to challenge existing processes and drive continuous operational improvements. Collaborate with molding, scheduling, and production leadership to prioritize machine repair and maintenance activities. Work closely with robotics, vision systems, ultrasonic welding equipment, and offset and inkjet printing systems to produce high-quality finished assemblies. Perform equipment calibration and validation to ensure accuracy, reliability, and compliance with quality and regulatory requirements. Use precision measurement tools and test equipment to diagnose issues and verify equipment performance. Read and interpret technical drawings, P&IDs, and equipment documentation to support troubleshooting, repair, and modifications. Participate in problem analysis, root cause investigations, and corrective action recommendations, and communicate progress updates to relevant departments. Support and contribute to preventive maintenance programs to extend equipment life and reduce unplanned downtime. Use manufacturing software systems and productivity tools to document work, track maintenance activities, and support operational reporting. Work both independently and as part of a team to meet production, quality, and reliability goals. Essential Skills High school diploma or equivalent. Minimum 2 years of experience in manufacturing engineering, maintenance, or a closely related role. Hands-on experience performing maintenance on manufacturing production equipment. Experience performing equipment calibration and validation. Strong troubleshooting skills across mechanical, electrical, and automated systems. Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, P&IDs, and equipment documentation. Knowledge of GMP and ISO standards and regulatory requirements in manufacturing environments. Expertise using precision measurement tools and test equipment. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications. Proficiency using manufacturing software systems such as SAP, Oracle, or similar platforms. Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work independently and collaboratively across departments. Ability to stand for extended periods, lift up to 50 lbs, and work in various environmental conditions. Ability to work different shifts and respond to emergency calls as needed. Additional Skills & Qualifications Preferred education in Engineering Technology, Electronics, Instrumentation, or a related technical field. Technical or trade school certification in a relevant discipline is preferred. Experience with PLC systems and PLC programming. Experience with SCADA systems and automated manufacturing equipment. Experience in automation, robotics, and controls engineering. Experience with vision systems, ultrasonic welding, and automated printing technologies. Experience supporting preventive maintenance programs and continuous improvement initiatives. Comfort working with electrical systems and control circuits. Strong teamwork mindset and willingness to collaborate with cross-functional teams to achieve operational goals. Work Environment The role is based in a manufacturing environment that uses advanced automation technologies, including robotics, PLC-controlled systems, SCADA, vision systems, ultrasonic welding, and offset and inkjet printing equipment. You will spend significant time on the production floor, standing for extended periods and working hands-on with machinery and tools. The position requires the ability to lift up to 50 lbs and to work in a variety of environmental conditions typical of a manufacturing facility. Work hours may include different shifts, and you may need to respond to emergency calls as operational needs arise. The environment emphasizes safety, adherence to GMP and ISO standards, and close collaboration with maintenance, engineering, molding, scheduling, and production teams. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Rochester, NY. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $28.00/hr.
