Job Summary / Purpose of Position The Sr Radiological Instrument Calibration and Laboratory Technician provides support to the Radiation Protection Program by maintaining, calibrating, troubleshooting and configuring radiological instrumentation. Maintains and troubleshoots equipment and projects analytical needs based on phased project requirements and provides real-time and lagging empirical data for solutions to radiological safety problems and deficiencies. Minimum Qualifications Education / Experience High School education or equivalent with courses in algebra, biology, chemistry, and/or physics or GED equivalency. Minimum of five (5) years of related experience.

None Other Requirements Experience with personal computers and working knowledge of Microsoft 365 Requires successful completion of Radiological Worker II within first 30 days of hire Maintain Respirator qualification Possess broad knowledge and proficiency of any of the Mirion (Canberra) products such as High Purity Germanium (HPGe) Detectors, Alpha Spectroscopy, Sodium Iodide (NaI) detectors, and Alpha Beta Counting Systems. Computer proficiency and technical aptitude in Mirion (Canberra) software such as Genie 2000, Apex Gamma, Apex In-Vivo, Eclipse, and Apex Alpha Beta. Must be able to troubleshoot and isolate equipment malfunctions and take corrective actions, analyzing hardware or software issues. Work closely with Vendor Technical Support and Engineering to locate and correct system faults. Must possess effective oral and written communication skills. Must be able to trend, analyze, and anticipate a wide variety of radiological control count room issues and provide solutions to difficult problems. Working knowledge of how to repair and calibrate radiological instruments is preferred. All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply. Major Responsibilities / Scope of Work Maintain a safe and healthful work environment by following established safe work practices and procedures; investigating and reporting identified safety concerns or situations. Adhere to standards contained in the Company "Code of Conduct," Company EEO practices, and DOE directives. Make recommendations or improvements on procurement of components, systems, spare parts, portable test equipment requirements, work scheduling, training, etc. Maintains accurate records of calibrations, testing and analytical work performed. Computes, analyzes and records test data. Maintains technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing publications. Provides guidance for Radiological Control Technicians on sampling and analysis methods. Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed. Regular attendance required. Radiological Laboratory Duties Assists personnel with Radiological Control Manual interpretation, support, and instruction. Performs highly specialized sample analyses of unknown radioactivity content. Maintains special purpose equipment by evaluating its performance and interpreting and analyzing operating difficulties. Ensure operation of equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs; evaluating new equipment and techniques. Interacts with vendors on technical problems relating to assigned tasks. Ensures the accuracy of radiation protection laboratory equipment by performing routine calibrations and pre-use performance checks and maintains quality control charts. Provides information needed for task completion by evaluating data, reporting results of data, and scheduling counting room work for routine samples. Performs non-routine assignments in radiological and instrumental analysis per written work documents. Provides unique analytical setups for special purposes by assembling, repairing, and modifying complex analytical equipment. Performs database management activities including sample log in and data tracking using SQL Server, Crystal Reports and/or Access. Maintains process and system guidelines by reviewing radiological procedures and training materials; recommending revisions; writing and updating policies and procedures. Review job activities and develop new techniques of approach to radio analyses and instrument use. Radiation Instrumentation and Calibration Duties Responsible to repair Radiation Protection (RP) instruments and calibrate RP instrumentation with radioactive sources with some troubleshooting issue or concern. Maintains instrument calibrations using radioactive and electronic standards, instrument maintenance and repair, maintenance of and adherence to instrument recall database, laboratory procedures, calibration reviews, instrument configurations, instrument source checks to be performed in accordance with
WVDP-318.
