Position Summary The Sand Separation System Operations Technician is responsible for the operation, monitoring, and maintenance of a manure and sand separation system supporting dairy operations and downstream anaerobic digestion. This role requires a mechanically and electrically inclined individual capable of operating process equipment, troubleshooting basic system issues, and maintaining reliable system uptime. The technician will work with pumps, conveyors, separators, and associated electrical systems. Core Responsibilities
- Follow all safety procedures and company policies
- Work safely around electrical systems, moving equipment, and wet environments
- Use appropriate PPE at all times
- Identify and report unsafe conditions immediately
- Follow lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures as required
- Operate sand separation and manure handling systems on a daily basis
- Start up, monitor, and shut down system components (pumps, separators, conveyors, screens)
- Adjust flow rates and system settings to maintain optimal performance
- Maintain consistent system throughput and sand recovery quality
- Monitor system performance and identify abnormalities in real time
Evaluate:
Sand quality and dryness Flow consistency Equipment condition (noise, vibration, temperature)
- Record operational data and maintain logs
- Communicate system performance and issues clearly to management
- Perform routine maintenance: Cleaning and washdown Clearing blockages Lubrication and basic upkeep
- Troubleshoot mechanical issues involving pumps, piping, conveyors, and separation equipment
- Assist with repairs and coordinate with maintenance personnel as needed
- Troubleshoot basic electrical issues related to: Motors and motor starters Sensors and probes Control panels and basic PLC-driven systems (as applicable)
- Identify common issues such as tripped breakers, faulty wiring, or failed components
- Safely reset equipment and return systems to operation when appropriate
- Read and interpret basic electrical schematics and equipment drawings
- Clearly document and communicate electrical issues to management or qualified electricians
- Support electricians or technicians during advanced troubleshooting and repairs
- Manage movement and staging of separated sand
- Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the system area
- Ensure proper handling of manure and process streams
- Support overall site operations as needed
