Job Title:
Electronics Prototype Technician Job Description This role focuses on building, assembling, and testing new electronic products and printed circuit boards (PCBs) in a lab environment. You will work from PCB blueprints and schematics to create and validate prototypes, prepare and test components, and ensure that assemblies meet performance and quality standards. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on electronics work, detailed testing, and collaborating with a close-knit engineering team. Responsibilities Build and test new electronic products and PCB assemblies from provided blueprints and schematics. Perform prototyping activities, including assembling, modifying, and reworking PCB prototypes for evaluation. Set up prototypes for performance testing, ensuring proper configuration and accurate measurement of results. Incorporate wire harnesses into assemblies, including routing, securing, and connecting wiring as required. Prepare electronic components for assembly, including identification, organization, and pre-testing where needed. Conduct functional and performance testing of PCBs and electronic assemblies using oscilloscopes, multimeters, spectrum analyzers, and other electronic test equipment. Perform PCB soldering, including through-hole and surface-mount technology (SMT) components, following established quality standards. Inspect and troubleshoot PCB assemblies and wire harnesses, identifying issues and assisting with corrective actions. Document test setups, procedures, and results to support product validation and continuous improvement. Collaborate closely with engineers and other team members to refine designs based on test outcomes and prototype performance. Maintain a clean, organized lab workspace and follow all safety and equipment handling procedures. Essential Skills Associate's degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology. Hands-on experience with electronics and PCB assembly and testing. Ability to read and work from PCB blueprints and electronic schematics. Proficiency in using electronic test equipment such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, and spectrum analyzers. Experience with PCB testing, including functional and performance verification. Practical skills in PCB soldering, including surface-mount technology (SMT) and through-hole components. Experience working with wire harnesses in electronic assemblies. Strong attention to detail and ability to follow technical procedures accurately. Ability to work effectively in a lab environment, balancing multiple tasks and priorities. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with surface-mount technology (SMT) rework and inspection. Background in electronic component preparation and testing. Familiarity with prototype development processes and engineering change activities. Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills in an electronics lab setting. Effective communication skills for collaborating with engineers and team members. Organizational skills to manage components, documentation, and test setups efficiently. Work Environment You will work in a dedicated electronics lab setting with a mix of sitting and standing for extended periods while assembling and testing PCBs and prototypes. The team is relatively small, with a close-knit group of around 50 people contributing to product development and testing. The environment emphasizes collaboration, quality, and continuous improvement, with access to modern electronic test equipment such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, and spectrum analyzers. The schedule follows a 9/80 structure, providing every other Friday off, and the culture promotes a supportive, team-oriented atmosphere focused on delivering high-quality electronic products. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Middleburg Heights, OH. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $28.00/hr.
