Job Description
AMETEK Process Instruments is seeking a motivated Instrument Repair Technician I to join our team. This role is primarily responsible for in‑house repair, diagnostics, and support of our analytical instruments within our Pittsburgh, PA facility. The ideal candidate will have experience with electronics troubleshooting, strong communication skills, and the ability to provide exceptional customer support. Primary Responsibilities Perform in-house repair of analyzers at the Pittsburgh, PA facility (approx. 80% of workload).
Communicate with customers by phone to generate quotations and Return to Manufacturer Authorizations (RMA).
Receive, troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair instruments.
Record all service activities in the Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system.
Ensure complete customer satisfaction and support department profitability.
Provide customer training and support as needed.
Make travel arrangements for local and occasional international field service visits.
Provide telephone support for:
Instrument retrofit quotations
Repair cost estimates
Remote troubleshooting assistance
Process spare parts orders and build service test fixtures as required.
Perform additional duties as required by business needs or senior service management.
Job Requirements Minimum:
High School diploma or equivalent.Preferred:
Associate's Degree in Electronics, equivalent military training, or relevant work experience with strong electronic systems knowledge. 3-5 years of related experience. Understanding of basic chemistry is a strong plus. Proven ability to troubleshoot analog, digital, and microprocessor‑based electronics. Familiarity with essential test equipment, including: Test rigs Calibration equipment Digital Volt Meter (DVM) Oscilloscope Soldering equipment Standard wiring/mechanical tools Ability to lift and handle materials up to 75 pounds. Must be able to travel via air, land, or sea on commercial carriers. Rare requirement to climb to heights up to 250 feet using proper safety harnesses and conditions. Must register with AMETEK's partnering health and safety organizations to support customer site access requirements.
