Job Description

Position Summary The Automation Maintenance Technician is responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining production equipment and facility systems to support safe, efficient, and reliable manufacturing operations. This role includes mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and basic automation support for injection molding presses, robotics, conveyors, grinders, chillers, dryers, and other auxiliary equipment. The position also supports preventive maintenance, continuous improvement initiatives, and equipment reliability efforts. This position is on the overnight shift 7 PM - 7 AM on a 2-2-3 schedule. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Equipment Maintenance and Repair Perform mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic troubleshooting on injection molding presses, robotics, conveyors, grinders, chillers, dryers, and auxiliary equipment. Diagnose root causes of equipment issues and implement timely corrective actions. Conduct preventive and predictive maintenance to minimize downtime. Assist in mold changes, press startups, and equipment setup as required. Repair or replace mechanical components including pumps, valves, cylinders, bearings, belts, and motors. Electrical and Controls Support Troubleshoot motors, sensors, relays, heaters, thermocouples, and wiring. Support electricians and automation personnel during major electrical and controls repairs. Perform basic PLC and automation system diagnostics and communicate issues to the appropriate personnel. Assist with troubleshooting HMIs, VFDs, servo drives, safety circuits, and automated machine controls. Support setup, testing, and adjustment of automated equipment and robotics to maintain production efficiency. Automation Technician Responsibilities Assist with troubleshooting automated systems including robots, conveyors, sensors, vision systems, and PLC-controlled equipment. Support automation and controls personnel with equipment startups, changeovers, and process improvements. Help identify and correct issues related to machine communication, sensors, actuators, and control devices. Participate in equipment commissioning, validation, and installation of new automated systems. Work with maintenance and engineering teams to improve machine reliability and reduce unplanned downtime. Assist with preventive maintenance activities on automation and control systems. Maintain awareness of automation system performance and escalate programming or advanced controls issues to qualified personnel. Facility and Safety Systems Perform general facility maintenance including lighting, plumbing, air compressors, HVAC support, and building systems. Maintain safe and compliant operation of equipment in accordance with OSHA and company safety policies. Assist with safety inspections, equipment audits, and compliance reviews. Documentation and Continuous Improvement Document all maintenance and repair activities in the CMMS. Participate in root cause analysis, corrective actions, and waste-reduction initiatives. Recommend improvements to equipment reliability, spare parts inventory, and maintenance procedures. Support installation of new equipment and commissioning activities. Qualifications Required 2-4 years of maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment. Working knowledge of mechanical systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, and basic electrical troubleshooting. Basic understanding of automation systems and industrial controls. Ability to read mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, and equipment manuals. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to diagnose issues quickly. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, stand for extended periods, and work safely around machinery. Willingness to work overtime, weekends, or respond to emergencies as needed. Preferred Experience in plastic injection molding or a similar manufacturing environment. Experience with robotics, automated equipment, or PLC-controlled systems. CMMS experience. Basic understanding of 480V systems and industrial electrical safety. Technical certification or training in maintenance, mechatronics, automation, industrial technology, or a related field.
