About the role:
The Metrology and Calibration Quality Engineer III demonstrates advanced commitment to patient safety and product quality through independent execution and oversight of metrology related quality systems. Leads complex quality activities associated with calibration systems, documentation, investigations, and regulatory compliance. Serves as a subject matter expert for metrology quality practices, ensuring calibration processes, data integrity, and equipment controls meet all Boston Scientific, customer, and regulatory requirements. At Boston Scientific, we value collaboration and synergy. This role follows a hybrid work model requiring employees to be in our local office at least three days per week. Relocation assistance is not available for this position at this time. Boston Scientific will not offer sponsorship or take over sponsorship of an employment visa for this position at this time.Your responsibilities will include:
Lead the development, review, and approval of complex calibration procedures, specifications, and quality documentation, ensuring technical accuracy, regulatory compliance, and usability by technicians with minimal rework or oversight. Serve as a primary quality representative for metrology during audits, independently preparing and defending calibration documentation, supporting front‑room and back‑room activities, and addressing auditor questions related to calibration systems and data integrity. Provide advanced technical and quality guidance to calibration technicians and internal customers, resolving complex technical questions, interpreting requirements, and ensuring clear, professional communication across stakeholders. Independently collaborate cross‑functionally with operations, quality, engineering, and customers to define calibration requirements, resolve systemic issues, and support equipment lifecycle and change activities from a quality perspective. Ensure compliant execution of calibration processes by applying expert knowledge of metrology procedures, out‑of‑tolerance handling, documentation controls, and regulatory expectations, including escalation of significant risks as appropriate. Create, own, and drive complex quality investigations, including out‑of‑tolerance reports (OOTRs), NCEPs, and CAPAs, exercising independent judgment in root‑cause analysis, risk assessment, and corrective/preventive action development and effectiveness review. Oversee and ensure accuracy of equipment and calibration records within the equipment management system, including documentation updates, task completion, and data integrity for audit and decision‑making purposes. Lead and influence continuous improvement initiatives that strengthen calibration documentation quality, audit readiness, workflow robustness, and overall reliability of the metrology quality system.Required qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in relevant technical or scientific discipline, and at least 7 years of experience in calibration, metrology, or related field. or Master's Degree in relevant technical or scientific discipline, and at least 2 years of experience in calibration, metrology, or related field.Preferred qualifications:
Advanced degree in Engineering, Metrology, or related discipline. Hands‑on experience performing calibrations and using an equipment management database. Experience supporting calibration workflows in a medical device or similarly regulated environment. Experience preparing for or supporting audits (ISO 13485 or similar). Familiarity with out-of-tolerance investigations, measurement uncertainty, and calibration processes.
