Job Description

Thermaflex, a subsidiary of Smiths Group, and a leading manufacturer of products for the HVAC markets, is recruiting for an Electronics Technician based at our Abbeville, South Carolina location. Job Summary:
Performs a wide variety of duties to repair, install, maintain, or modify complicated electronic, electrical and electro-mechanical equipment. Support manufacturing operations by diagnosing equipment issues, repairing electronic systems, and developing modern solutions to replace outdated technology. This role combines hands-on troubleshooting with the ability to design and build electrical panels or enclosures for both legacy system upgrades and future automation initiatives.
Essential Functions:
Diagnoses and troubleshoot electrical and electronic issues in manufacturing equipment and control systems. Perform repairs, maintenance, and calibration of industrial electronic components, including PLCs, sensors, drives, and HMIs. Design, assemble, and wire electrical panels and enclosures to support equipment upgrades or new automation projects. Interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical manuals to identify problems and implement solutions. Retrofit or replace obsolete systems with modern, efficient automation technologies. Collaborate with engineering and production teams to improve system performance, reliability, and safety. Test and validate newly built panels or modified systems before deployment. Maintain documentation for repairs, upgrades, and system configurations. Ensure all work complies with safety standards, electrical codes, and company procedures.
Secondary Duties:
Performs mechanical repairs as required and assists other mechanics with various craft skills. Keep records as necessary.
Qualifications:
Proven experience troubleshooting industrial electronic systems in a manufacturing environment. Strong understanding of electrical circuits, control systems, and automation components. Ability to read and interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, and layout drawings. Hands-on experience building and wiring control panels or enclosures. Familiarity with PLC programming and industrial communication systems is a plus. Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Education:
Associate degree or technical certification in Electronics, Electrical Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
Experience:
Minimum of 5 years' related experience
Skills:
Experience with automation integration or modernization projects. Knowledge of NEC, UL standards, and industrial safety practices. Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment. Basic mechanical aptitude to support cross-functional troubleshooting.
Pay:
$45,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
