Position Title:
INSTRUMENT TECHNICIAN FLSA

6550 Walden Rd. Beaumont Tx 77707 Reports to: Survey Party Chief / District Engineer Subordinate positions: NonePOSITION OVERVIEW
Works as a member of the Survey Field Crew under the direct supervision of the Survey Party Chief. Performs boundary, topographic, and other land surveys for Jefferson County Drainage District No. 6's properties and rights-of-way.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential Job Functions:
- Operates total station, digital and automatic level, Trimble data collector, TDS software
- Establish and verify survey control points/benchmarks
- Support construction layout and staking
- Perform basic survey calculations
- Collect data for field level notes to be reported to the Surveyor Party Chief
- Assist in loading and unloading survey equipment from the company vehicle
- Conduct all work activities in compliance with Jefferson County Drainage District No. 6's policies and procedures
- On time and consistent attendance is required
- Operates District boats and watercraft as required for field operations

Works outside in all types of weather; may be exposed to constant noise, dust, dirt, chemicals, and traffic hazards. Must be available to work Monday through Thursday from 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Must be available to work extended days/hours as needed. This position is considered essential during emergency situations.MINIMUM ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
- Basic understanding of land surveying principles and practices.
- Basic math skills (geometry, trigonometry, measurements, elevations)
- Ability to read construction plans, maps, and survey stakes
- Ability to operate: o Total stations o
GPS/GNSS
survey equipment o Data collectors o Digital levelsPREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- UAV license or willingness to obtain UAV license
- Familiarity with launching and operating watercraft
- Familiarity with hauling and maneuvering a trailer with a pickup truck
REQUIRED SKILLS / ABILITIES
- Ability to follow instructions from a party chief
- Strong attention to accuracy and detail
- Basic problem-solving ability in field conditions
- Good communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to organize and record field data properly
- Responsible for the care, cleanliness, and routine inspection of assigned vehicles and equipment, including truck, ATV, and field tools, ensuring they remain in safe working order.
Physical Requirements:
Constantly sees and hears; frequently climbs, drives, kneels, sits, squats, stands, stoops, crawls, twists body, walks long distances through undeveloped terrain, writes by hand, carries objects weighing up to 50 lbs., drags and lifts objects weighing up to 100 lbs., holds objects weighing up to 15 lbs., pulls and pushes objects weighing up to 200 lbs. Ability to work in the outside elements of the field up to 100% of the time.EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
High School graduate or equivalent Minimum of five (5) years verifiable experience in surveying construction stakeoutOther:
Must possess a valid Class C driver's license with a good driving record. Other state valid Driver's License equivalent to Texas Class C with a good driving record will be considered. Texas state law requires within 30 days of residency, you must possess a valid Texas driver's license.
