Full-Time (Required to participate in On-Call Rotation, including evenings, overnight shifts, and weekends). Position Summary The Intermodal Mechanic - Chassis Repair Specialist is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, repair, and certification of intermodal chassis equipment. This position focuses exclusively on chassis repair and ensures all equipment meets FMCSA, and company safety standards. The ideal candidate possesses strong mechanical skills, welding experience, and a thorough understanding of intermodal chassis components and repair procedures. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Perform inspections, diagnostics, and repairs on intermodal chassis equipment. Repair and replace chassis components including: Suspension systems Landing gear Brake systems (air brakes) Wheel-end components Axles and hubs Air lines and valves Lighting and electrical systems Cross members and structural components Twist locks and container securement devices Conduct chassis preventive maintenance inspections (SMC). Perform welding, cutting, grinding, and fabrication repairs as required. Repair structural damage and ensure chassis meet industry and regulatory standards. Inspect equipment for FMCSA compliance and identify safety-related deficiencies. Complete tire and wheel repairs as needed. Accurately document inspections, repairs, and maintenance activities. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment. Follow all company and customer safety policies. Respond to road service or emergency repair requests when required. Assist with inventory management and parts identification. Required Qualifications Minimum 2 years of chassis repair, trailer repair, heavy-duty mechanic, or related maintenance experience. Working knowledge of intermodal chassis systems and FMCSA inspection requirements. Experience with air brake systems and suspension repairs. Ability to operate hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, and diagnostic equipment. Ability to read and interpret repair manuals and inspection forms. Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. Valid driver's license required. Intermodal equipment repair experience Experience with ABS diagnostics and repair. Physical Requirements Ability to lift up to 75 pounds regularly. Ability to stand, bend, kneel, climb, and work in confined spaces. Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions. Ability to safely operate shop equipment and machinery. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Chassis structural repair and welding proficiency. Air brake troubleshooting and repair expertise. Mechanical aptitude and attention to detail. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Strong commitment to safety and quality workmanship. Effective communication and teamwork skills. Time management and productivity focus. Work Environment Heavy equipment maintenance shop. Exposure to noise, grease, dust, welding fumes, and varying weather conditions. Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) required at all times. Performance Expectations Maintain safe and compliant chassis fleet availability. Complete repairs accurately and efficiently. Minimize equipment downtime. Achieve quality standards on all inspections and repairs. Support company safety and operational goals.
