Job Summary The Door Hardware and Electronics Technician provides skilled technical support for all UT Tyler and UT Health Science Center facilities by installing, configuring, maintaining, troubleshooting, replacing, and repairing a wide range of mechanical door systems and electronic access components. This includes but is not limited to door hardware, automatic door operators, electronic locks, card readers, access control devices, and related security systems. The technician ensures all door and access systems operate safely and securely. Perform or facilitate NFPA 80 Fire Door inspections. Major Responsibilities/Duties/Critical Tasks Install, configure, maintain, troubleshoot, replace and repair automatic mechanical door hardware and electronic access systems. Monitor and conduct regular maintenance checks and update access to identify and resolve any potential issues. Provide technical review and input for new equipment. Assist Locksmith with rekeying, evaluating, troubleshooting, maintaining, repairing, and replacing door locks and hardware as needed. Support general facilities' maintenance activities. Other duties as assigned. Required Education/Experience High school diploma or equivalent. Two years of experience in door hardware and electronic access systems. May accept a combination of education and experience. Preferred Education/Experience Three (3) years of experience in the access/security systems maintenance or related field. Competency Lenel, Traka and Transact. Certified American Association of Automatic Door Manufacturers (AAADM) NFPA 80 Certified Fire Door Inspector Required Certifications/Licenses Valid Texas driver's license (Not subject to suspension and eligible to drive a motor vehicle owned or leased by the University of Texas System.) Lenel and Milestone certification (acquired within 6 months of hire.) Accompanying Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies Competent skills using Microsoft Office Suite. Comprehension of networking and IT principles as it applies to access control systems. Understanding of NFPA life safety codes related to locking arrangements. Knowledge of electronic databases as it pertains to access control systems. Strong customer service and communication skills, both in person and over the phone. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple responsibilities effectively. Strong organizational skills with the ability to plan, prioritize, and coordinate activities. Proficiency in managing and reviewing documentation. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify and resolve issues efficiently. Demonstrated flexibility and initiative in a dynamic work environment. Capable of reading and comprehending construction drawings. Ability to maintain confidential information. Ability to maintain the security or integrity of critical infrastructure, which may include communications systems, computer networks and systems, cybersecurity systems, electrical grid, hazardous waste treatment or water treatment system.
