Summary of Position:
Performs highly complex (senior-level) electronics technical support work with equipment commonly associated with transportation in the maintenance department for Valley Metro to include facilities and vehicles. Work involves designing, installing, diagnosing, maintaining, and repairing electronics; and performing maintenance and calibrating electronic instruments. Works under limited supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Installs, maintains, and inspects electronics such as, but not limited to, Wi-Fi Routers, modems, radio system, destination signs, fareboxes, surveillance cameras, etc. as communications, cameras, lighting, sound, security, or instrumentation control equipment. Designs, develops and implements techniques for evaluating program activities. Performs diagnostic tests on electronic components to determine functioning level and capacity. Diagnoses and repairs defective parts or components; and tests components and instrument function to verify, calibrate, and certify the reliability of measurements. Performs preventative maintenance inspections using checklists specifically for electronic equipment. Maintains repair parts and tools inventory and technical files of electronic equipment. May construct or calibrate specialized electronic equipment. May prepare instructional materials and aids and may provide training in electronic repair techniques associated with commercial and non-commercial vehicles. May record diagnostic and repair activities of electronics. Maintains Automated Vehicle Location system (AVL). Complete all required reports and records in a timely and accurate fashion. Conduct routine probing, removal, and replacement of cashboxes in fareboxes located in the field. Ensure secure handling and proper installation of cashboxes to maintain operational efficiency. Performs other duties as assigned. On-sight work with exposure to outdoor conditions and travel as necessary. May require lifting of equipment weighing 35 pounds or more while using safe lifting practices (i.e.: team lifting, assisted lifting using dolly.etc.). Experience in installing, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining electronic equipment. Minimum two (2) years of directly related experience in general electronic repairs including electronic circuit boards, radio systems, AVL systems, and computer skills. Graduation from a two-year college with major coursework in electronic technology or graduation from an accredited vocational or technical school of electronics is generally preferred. Experience and education may be substituted for one another. Must possess a valid Texas Driver's License. Commercial Drivers License preferred. This position is classified as a safety sensitive position in accordance with FTAs rules and regulations. May require certification as an electronics technician.
