Organizes required supplies (setup, connect, test, opere drills, saws, etc.) and instruments for surgical procedures. Pass instruments and equipment to the surgeon during surgical procedures. Ensures the availability of equipment, instruments, and supplies for surgical procedures. Obtains sterile supplies, equipment, positioning devices, instrumention, sutures, sponges, dressing, linens, etc., for specific procedures. Performs sponge, needle and sharps count during various periods of all surgical procedures. Assists in positioning of pients for procedures Check pient's chart for surgical consent. Ensures the pient has been correctly prepared for surgery. Checks identificion bands for completeness. Requirements Help Conditions of employment This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determinion of eligibility for a Tier 3 security investigion or access for the durion of employment. A background investigion and credit check are required. This position requires the incumbent to have tuberculosis testing. Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determinion, as determined by a completed background investigion. One year of specialized experience which includes:1) Assisting the surgeon with routine to complex medical procedures in an opering room; 2) Selecting approprie surgical supplies, instruments and/or equipment for surgical procedures; 3) Opering surgical equipment; 4) Sterilizing medical instruments and equipment; and 5) preparing pients for surgical procedures in an opering room setting. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). OR Educion:
One and a half years of gradue level educion in a field directly reled to the work of the position, such as Surgical Assisting. OR Combinion of Educion and Experience:
A combinion of educion and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of hours of completed gradue semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total semester hours minus 18) by 9. Add the two percentages.
