Low Voltage Technician Job Description The Low Voltage Technician I is an essential member of a technical team, responsible for learning and applying skills in the structured cabling industry. This role typically requires one year of experience in the field. Responsibilities Install work area outlets for floors, modular furniture, and walls, utilizing methods such as surface mount boxes and box eliminators. Use fish tape or other methods to drop cable down walls and route cable through modular furniture. Perform pre-termination procedures, including organizing, forming, dressing cables, and determining length, slack, and labeling. Correctly suspend and support cables using cable trays, J-hooks, D-rings, bridal rings, and trapeze. Build closets by mounting and installing backboards, cross connects, racks, patch panels, fiber optics, and hardware. Install grounding for racks, equipment, and cable as needed. Perform fire-stopping procedures, install sleeves, pull cables through sleeves, and manage core penetration. Terminate low-voltage devices. Follow prints accurately. Complete all paperwork accurately and on time, including timesheets, material transfers, work orders, change orders, and tool transfers. Essential Skills Experience in construction and cabling. Skill in cable termination testing. OSHA 10 certification. Proficiency in terminating, pulling fiber, and working with Cat 5, Cat 6, and fiber optic cables. Additional Skills & Qualifications Minimum of zero to one year of experience in electrical work. Mechanical aptitude and a willingness to learn. Work Environment This role is based in Manassas, VA, with potential adjustments to other projects within Northern Virginia. Work hours are Monday through Friday from 5:00 AM to 3:30 PM, with occasional extended hours until 5:30 PM and occasional Saturday work. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Manassas, VA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $26.00/hr.
