Job Description

Well Established Engineered Wood Products Mill has a critical need for a Senior PLC Controls Technician to join its team. This position will be replacing a key long term employee who is retiring this spring. Smaller, extremely well run plant with lots of automated machinery to maintain as well as supporting new equipment installations over time. Excellent benefits plan. Day shift role Monday-Friday with an average of 2 weekends per year for project commissioning work.
Job Description:
The PLC Technician at this veneer plant in Washington state will provide process controls to the facility. Responsibilities include the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of all electrical control systems, PLC controls networking, and HMI systems. The PLC Technician will work to improve plant performance and reliability, which will include initiating and developing control system modifications and new projects. The PLC Technician supports both the operations and maintenance departments and will work under the direct supervision of the maintenance superintendent. The position is available to be on call, on nights and weekends, when required for plant outages.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related technical degree preferred. High school diploma or GED required.
  • Three years of
PLC & HMI
programming and troubleshooting experience in an industrial setting. Wood products industry preferred.
  • Experience with Allen Bradley PLC's. Programming new code preferred. Experience with Mitsubishi PLC's a plus.
  • Experience with control graphics / HMI programming and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with
VFD's:
Allen Bradley Powerflex
  • Experience with process control communication types (Ethernet/IP, Profibus, Frofinet, ControlNet, DeviceNet, & Modbus)
  • Knowledge of principles, methods, and techniques in the design and operation of automated process control systems and their components.
  • Ability to understand and apply
NFPA 70E
standards as it relates to control systems.
  • Ability to identify root cause of problems and initiate immediate corrective action to prevent reoccurrence.
  • Instrumentation experience in flow meters, temperature (RTD and thermocouple), pressure, and level transducers, control valves, smart meters, schematics & wiring diagrams. Experience with tuning PID loops.
  • Ability to read electrical schematics.
  • Ability to work with contractors, vendors, and suppliers for the purpose of developing project concepts, quoting, developing scope of work and cost justifications regarding projects.
  • Develop special procedures that involve process control engineering knowledge. Maintenance and management of control systems, executing changes to configurations, graphics, control loops, PLC/s, shutdown systems, etc.
  • Strong work ethic.
  • Excellent judgement and decision-making abilities.
  • Solid interpersonal skills allowing to work effectively in a diverse working environment.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA and other safety standards
  • Well versed in equipment logout/tag out procedures.
  • Available to be on call for plant emergencies (nights and weekends).
