Position summary:
In this position the Instrument Technician will perform plant instrumentation and electrical functions. Provide technical support for the plant programmable controllers, distributive control, and instrumentation systems (DCIS), and related electrical and instrument control equipment for coal fired steam generating and gas combustion turbine processes.
Pay Range:
$37.50 - $58.93 (Determined by the current Collective Bargaining Agreement)

Gillette, Wyoming Essential Functions:
  • Perform all essential functions of an Instrumentation Technician I.
  • Demonstrate safe work practices along with Identify, report, and correct safety, and environmental concern.
  • Recognize electrical/mechanical hazards and take corrections actions.
  • Communicate with supervisor on the operating conditions and other pertinent information of assigned work areas and equipment.
  • Perform needed maintenance tasks in areas other than the electric field such as basic mechanical, lubrication, welding, and fabrication.
  • Read and interpret high/low voltage distribution prints and diagrams.
  • Connect and upload/download to PLC's, VFD and all instrumentation.
  • Support other plant personnel or job tasks as directed.
  • Trouble shoot electrical circuits and components, PLC, VFD, and motor controls of varying complexity.
  • Trouble shoot protective relays for transformer, feeder, and motors circuits.
  • Design/procure parts and install new power and control circuits by current NEC standards.
  • Read and interpret PIDs, calibrate, set span and zero on various types of instrumentation.
  • Prioritize workload in accordance with the facilities needs and projects, completing all tasks with a sense of urgency and efficiency.
  • Run and install conduit and circuits.
  • Complete all required paperwork and reports in a timely manner.
Additional Responsibilities:
  • Engaging in the on-call rotation with a system of support/supervision.
  • Work safely, following company policies, procedures, and work practices in a positive, professional manner.
  • Provide information for various plant reports.
What Is Required:
  • Associate's Degree in electrical/electronics or six (6) years equivalent experience required must include AC/DC theory and low/medium/high voltage.
  • Two years of industry related experience - specific, power plant experience.
MSHA Electrical Card What Is Desired:
  • Working knowledge of coal fired and combustion turbine power generation plant equipment and system processes.
  • Working knowledge of test equipment, signal generators, relay test sets, oscilloscopes, and personal computers.
  • Working knowledge of
ABB DCIS
(S+ and Harmony), GE Mark VI and/or Micronet, Siemens PCS7.
  • Working knowledge of PLC basics, preferably Allen Bradley.
  • Ability to interpret control drawings and PIDs.
  • Skilled in configuring and tuning Distributive Control System and PLCs.
  • Perform work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work on high voltage systems.
  • Ability to operate a forklift and a variety of aerial equipment.
  • Able to work unscheduled call out work when requested and as scheduled.
  • Advanced electric knowledge and experience applying National Fire Protection Association 70E (NFPA) and National Electric Code (NEC) to high voltage and low voltage situations.
