What drives us GVEA is an electric cooperative which owns and maintains 3,491 miles of transmission and distribution lines, 35 substations, and 9 generating facilities. Our system is interconnected with Fort Wainwright, Eielson AFB, Fort Greely, Clear Space Force Station, the University of Alaska-Fairbanks, and all of the electric utilities in the Alaska Railbelt, extending from Homer to Fairbanks. Powering the Interior of Alaska, GVEA contributes to the economic, environmental, and social viability of our communities. What's your day like? As an Electrical Engineering Intern at GVEA, you'll support power generation projects by assisting with system troubleshooting, electrical design documentation, and equipment inspections. You'll help analyze technical issues, gather field data, and contribute to engineering studies such as efficiency improvements and system performance. You'll also assist with project research, preliminary designs, and system analysis (voltage, fault, coordination) while working alongside engineers and plant staff. This role offers a mix of hands-on fieldwork and office-based engineering support in an industrial plant environment. This internship is an excellent opportunity to apply your academic knowledge in a practical setting and to make a meaningful impact on our community. This position typically works Monday - Friday up to 8 hours per day, not to exceed 30 hours per week. What we're looking for in a Electrical Engineering Intern To thrive as an Electrical Engineering Intern at Golden Valley Electric Association, candidates should be currently enrolled in an ABET-accredited engineering program and have a strong foundation in electrical engineering principles. You should be comfortable working with engineering software, data analysis tools, and technical documentation, and have an interest in power systems and industrial applications. Successful candidates will demonstrate the ability to analyze technical problems, support troubleshooting efforts, and contribute to engineering projects in a team environment. Strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to balance both fieldwork and office-based tasks are important for success in this role. Knowledge and skills required for the position are: Enrolled in an ABET-accredited BS Engineering degree Valid Alaska driver's license is required.READY TO JOIN OUR TEAM?
