Electrical Design Engineer Job Description Join a dynamic manufacturing company that specializes in producing street sweepers. This role involves reading and interpreting wiring diagrams, as well as troubleshooting electrical systems on various vehicle models. The position requires handling custom orders which may involve straightforward or complex design changes, providing an engaging opportunity for creative problem-solving. Responsibilities Interpret and analyze wiring diagrams for vehicle electrical systems. Troubleshoot and resolve electrical system issues on vehicles. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement design changes. Engage in new product development and design processes. Utilize software such as SolidWorks and AutoCAD for 3D design and schematic creation. Design and document wire harnesses, including drawing schematics using Visio/SolidWorks Electrical. Perform on-vehicle testing, prototyping, and production support. Build harnesses for testing in production, bench testing, and R D support. Adapt older drawings to meet current standards and requirements. Essential Skills 3+ years of experience in designing and troubleshooting electrical components in a manufacturing environment. Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Mechatronics Engineering. Proficiency in electrical engineering, wiring, and design. Experience with 3D design engineering using SolidWorks and AutoCAD. Familiarity with low voltage DC applications (12V, 24V systems) in the transportation industry. Competence with diagnostic tools such as multi-meters and test lights. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with heavy industrial equipment design or automotive experience. Controls knowledge including experience with Codesys software and IFM hardware. Knowledge of ladder logic and function block programming. Experience with CAD systems for creating part files, assemblies, and drawing files. Ability to size wiring, fuses, and other electrical components based on industry standards. Comfort in prototyping and production support environments. Work Environment The work environment combines time in both the engineering lab and the manufacturing floor. This is not a strictly desk-based role; it involves taking measurements, observing machinery, and working closely with the manufacturing team. The engineering design lab promotes a collaborative and feedback-oriented culture. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Huntsville, AL.
