OUT-OF-CLASS EXPERIENCE WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED FOR THIS EXAMINATION. REQUIRED EXPERIENCE MUST BE FULLY MET BY THE LAST DAY OF FILING, AND CLEARLY INDICATED ON THE APPLICATION.
Creates written plans for the installation and maintenance of electrical or electronic systems using office productivity and professional engineering software (e.g., CADD, BlueBeam) to ensure state code and NEC (National Electrical Code) compliance in proposed or current residential, commercial, or county infrastructure projects such as high voltage systems, lighting systems, energy source systems and modules, and automation systems. Reads and evaluates single-line diagrams of proposed electrical systems for accuracy, proper sizing, and viable application to the proposed project. Reviews plan submissions and design specifications for the installation or maintenance of electrical or electronic systems by outside parties using applied mathematics and engineering software (e.g., CADD, BlueBeam) in order to ensure accuracy and compliance with NEC code and safety standards. Reviews customer submissions (e.g. project plans, cost estimates) for accuracy and viability. Approves plans or permits submitted by customers that meet NEC standards and comply with relevant county policies. Reviews subordinate work (e.g. analysis, drafting) regarding plans, specifications, or cost proposals to ensure accuracy, code-compliance, and quality. Reviews design plans, specifications, electronic logs, mathematical analyses, and computer reports to determine whether information is accurate, complete, and up to date. Prepares correspondence such as letters and e-mails responding to customer inquiries or personnel complaints in order to resolve issues while complying with Department and County guidelines. REQUIREMENTS TO QUALIFY
A Bachelor's degree
  • from an accredited college or university in an electrical engineering curriculum approved by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET)
  • or equivalent experience
  • and a minimum of one year's professional engineering experience
  • beyond the minimum required for the California license.
LICENSE:
A valid California State Certificate of Registration as an Electrical Engineer.
  • A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.
Membership in professional electrical engineering is encouraged.
PHYSICAL CLASS
Physical Class 2 -
Light:
This class includes administrative and clerical positions requiring light physical effort that may include occasional light lifting to a 10-pound limit and some bending, stooping, or squatting. Considerable ambulation may be involved.

  • A qualifying degree is one where either the undergraduate or postgraduate electrical engineering curriculum is accredited by ABET, as supported by the California Department of Consumer Affairs.
  • Equivalent experience is defined as: 72 months of qualifying work experience, which meets the minimum experience requirement established by California licensing standards.
  • Professional engineering experience is defined as: The professional practice of rendering service requiring education, training and experience in engineering sciences, and the application of special knowledge for the purpose of securing compliance with specifications and design for any such work.
  • Applicant must provide a copy of their valid California State Certificate of Registration with their application or within five (5) business days from the end of the filing period.
A printout from the State of California Consumer Affairs website will be accepted. Applications submitted without the required certificate of registration will be rejected as incomplete. Registration will be subject to verification before being appointed.
EXAMINATION CONTENT
This examination will consist of TWO (2) parts:
PART I:

Applicants who passed the assessment(s) are placed on a list for a period of 12 months. We will use the list to fill vacancies in Public Works as they occur.
