• Position Overview:

• The Technology Innovation Directorate at SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory is seeking a talented Staff Engineer to join our team and be responsible for designing, fabricating, assembling, and testing a variety of sensors to meet the needs of the Lab's mission.

The Sensors Department is part of TID's Instrumentation Division and is responsible for delivering the sensor technologies for many of the scientific programs at SLAC. As an Associate Scientist in this department, you will work side by side with our nation's leading scientific minds while also performing R D on future approaches and technologies in the area of instrumentation. We pride ourselves in complex system design spanning concept, design, testing and operation and maintenance of high-speed data acquisition and electrical control systems for research instrumentation. Some of our current key projects from Instrumentation Division include the Linac Coherent Light Source (LCLS) x-ray laser and high speed x-ray detectors, FACET high energy electron accelerator, Cosmic Microwave Background Stage 4 (CMB-S4) telescope array to be deployed in the Andes, Light Dark Matter eXperiment (LDMX) and Cryogenic Dark Matter Search (CDMS), artificial retina development in collaboration with Stanford University, and development of flight hardware for future space telescopes. The successful candidate will be expected to provide innovative solutions to the many experiments that SLAC is involved with both now and in the future. Photolithographic mask design, development and optimization of fabrication processes, advanced device packaging and electrical test qualification for the unique requirements of SLAC experiments will be expected. Hands-on work in a cleanroom environment will be a central part of this job. Documenting results and procedures via internal technical notes and through peer-reviewed publications will also be expected.

• Note:

• This is a 36-month fixed term position with the possibility of extension or conversion to regular continuing position contingent on project fundings.
• To be successful in this position you will bring:
• + Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, applied physics or related fields with 2 years of experience in semiconductor sensors, preferably for particle or x-ray detection + Working knowledge of design packages such as PISCES, Medici, TCAD, Cadence, LEdit, Layout Editor, or equivalent.

+ Fundamental knowledge and practical experience with cleanroom process tools, vacuum system hardware, and supporting systems + Experience with process development and optimization, metrology, and statistical process control. + Familiarity with packaging and assembly processes, as well as electrical testing and device qualification. + Effective communication and writing skills for preparing and presenting technical documentation + Ability to work and communicate effectively with a diverse population, and to collaborate in a team environment

Fixed Term _The expected pay range for this position is $117,623 to $164,965 per annum. SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory/Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of the salary the university reasonably expects to pay for a position upon hire. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs.
