Job Title:
Wire Harness Engineer Job Description The Wire Harness Engineer designs and develops electrical systems and wiring harnesses that support vehicle programs through all phases of development. This role combines hands-on engineering, CAD design, prototyping, testing, and cross-functional collaboration to deliver reliable, high-performance automotive electrical systems. The engineer develops expertise in assigned electrical components and systems, supports manufacturing and sourcing activities, and contributes to continuous improvement in a fast-paced product development environment. Responsibilities Identify requirements for vehicle electrical systems and translate them into concepts, schematics, and 3D CAD models that support programs from early design through production. Develop deep expertise in assigned electrical systems and components, including wiring harnesses, modules, electrical components, and associated software. Create and maintain electrical schematics and 3D harness models to ensure accurate, manufacturable, and serviceable designs. Perform CAD design activities to support research and development efforts in a product development environment. Design and create prototype circuit boards and related assemblies to support new electrical system concepts and validation. Develop, document, and implement test procedures for electrical components, wiring, and systems, including defining and managing the release process. Use lab equipment and diagnostic tools to troubleshoot and identify root causes of issues on systems and vehicles, and develop robust solutions. Interface with cross-functional teams to support electrical and software testing, validation, and systems integration activities. Collaborate closely with software, mechanical, and test engineers to ensure seamless integration of electrical systems into complete vehicle platforms. Support and develop clear, detailed work instructions for manufacturing operations related to wiring harnesses and electrical assemblies. Provide technical input to support sourcing of new components, including evaluating options and contributing to supplier discussions. Participate in the engineering development process, including design, validation, and release of electrical components and systems. Prepare and maintain technical documentation and clear, concise reports related to designs, tests, and issues. Support occasional travel to testing locations, supplier sites, or customer facilities to assist with testing, validation, or issue resolution. Collaborate within a small, focused engineering team to deliver projects on time and to a high standard of quality. Manage multiple projects and timelines simultaneously, ensuring tasks are prioritized and completed effectively. Contribute to a positive, collaborative team culture by sharing knowledge, actively listening, and supporting colleagues across departments. Essential Skills Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field. 3-5 years of related experience in automotive electrical engineering or a similar field. Experience in the automotive industry, with exposure to vehicle electrical systems and components. Proven experience with engineering development processes, including design, validation, and release of components and systems. Hands-on experience designing and developing wire harnesses and electrical systems for vehicles. Proficiency with 3D CAD tools for electrical systems and harness design. Experience creating electrical schematics and supporting documentation. Ability to use lab equipment to diagnose and root cause issues on electrical systems and vehicles.
