Job Description

Jump start your Electrical Engineering Career today! Ready to learn how electrical engineering supports traffic control signals systems and keeps roadways moving safely? The Department of Transportation Services (DTS) , Transportation Technology Division , Traffic Control Center Branch, is seeking an entry-level Electrical Engineer who is eager to learn and grow while performing engineering work related to traffic signals systems. You will assist with electrical engineering work involving the design, preparation, and review of construction plans, support project management activities, assist with traffic signal timing plans, and help review and recommend approval of trenching permits. This position offers hands-on experience with real-world transportation infrastructure under the guidance of licensed engineers. What You Will Do Review simple traffic signal and traffic camera plans and specifications for compliance with City standards Assist with investigations and reviews of traffic signal operations to improve and optimized signal timing Monitor traffic conditions related to incidents, construction and special events to help recommend signal timing adjustments Special Work Requirements Attend neighborhood board and community meetings Work on weekends, holidays and outside normal working hours when necessary Perform shift work during emergency events or during Emergency Operation Center activation Requires unescorted access to the Joint Traffic Management Center (JTMC) A fingerprint-based national criminal history record check is required prior to assignment according to

(b)(37) and JTMC Policy No. 2016-B.06 Career Progression This position offers opportunities for career growth within the Electrical Engineering series, with advancement from Electrical Engineer I through Electrical Engineer III position without a State of Hawaii (SOH) Electrical Engineer license. Additional advancement may be possible upon obtaining a SOH Electrical Engineer license. EDUCATION REQUIREMENT
: Equivalent to graduation from a regionally-accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree in an engineering specialty.
Desirable Education:
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering Students who will graduate in the current semester with a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering may apply .
APPLICABLE SKILLS NEEDED
Basic knowledge of electrical engineering principles, system design, and engineering mathematics Familiarity with electrical plans, specifications, and drafting practices Working knowledge of the National Electrical Code and common engineering references Ability to perform routine electrical design work and check basic calculations Ability to assist with field and office studies and communicate findings clearly
