Up to 25% as neededPosition OverviewWe are seeking a Controls Engineer to design, develop, and maintain industrial control systems that support safe, reliable, and efficient operations across our facilities. This role focuses on HMI and PLC programming, process control panel design and implementation, and system integration to meet production and compliance objectives. The engineer will partner with engineering, operations, and vendors to deliver standardized, documented control solutions and support commissioning, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Key ResponsibilitiesDesign and develop PLC and HMI applications to control and monitor process equipment and systems.

Specify, design, and oversee fabrication of process control panels, including layout, wiring schematics, and component selection.

Integrate control systems across multiple protocols and networks (e.g., Modbus, Ethernet) and ensure interoperability with
SCADA/MES
platforms.

Develop and maintain control system documentation: functional descriptions, I/O lists, ladder/structured text code, sequence of operations, and wiring diagrams.

Perform factory acceptance testing (FAT), site acceptance testing (SAT), commissioning, and start-up support for new and modified control systems.

Troubleshoot and resolve hardware, software, and communications issues in live production environments.

Ensure control systems comply with applicable electrical and safety standards such as NEC and UL and adhere to corporate design standards and change control processes.

Collaborate with mechanical, process, and operations teams to translate requirements into effective control strategies and panel designs.

Lead vendor evaluations, supplier design reviews, and provide technical support during procurement and panel assembly.

Implement and promote best practices for control system cybersecurity, version control, and backup procedures.

Provide training and technical guidance to operations and maintenance personnel.

Drive continuous improvement by standardizing control libraries, templates, and panel designs for reuse across sites.

QualificationsBachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems Engineering, or related field.5+ years of hands-on experience in industrial controls engineering with strong experience in HMI, PLC, and process control panel design and implementation.

Proven experience programming PLCs and developing HMIs for process applications; experience with ControlLogix and Allen-Bradley platforms is highly desirable.

Working knowledge of industrial communication protocols such as Modbus and Ethernet and experience integrating with
SCADA/MES
platforms (Wonderware, AVEVA, ArchestrA preferred).Familiarity with NEC and UL standards and experience applying them to panel design and installation.

Experience with electrical/electronic design tools such as AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, SolidWorks, and SolidWorks Electrical for panel layout and documentation.

Hands-on experience with panel design, wiring schematics, and fabrication oversight.

Ability to perform FAT/SAT, commissioning, troubleshooting, and root-cause analysis in production environments.

Strong technical writing skills for creating specifications, procedures, and as-built documentation.

Excellent communication and collaboration skills and the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and external vendors.

Willingness to travel to manufacturing sites for commissioning and support as required.
