Job Description

Sr. Electrical Engineer- Round Lake, IL $105,000-$125,000Position OverviewWe are seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to lead electrical design and engineering work for commercial and industrial projects. The role combines hands-on technical design with project leadership: developing compliant electrical systems, coordinating testing and certification, and mentoring junior engineers. The ideal candidate will ensure designs meet NEC and UL requirements, integrate control systems (PLC/HMI), and produce clear AutoCAD documentation to support construction and commissioning.

Key ResponsibilitiesLead electrical system design for projects from concept through construction, including power distribution, lighting, grounding, and control systems.

Prepare and review detailed electrical drawings, schematics, and specifications using AutoCAD and other CAD tools.

Ensure designs comply with the National Electrical Code (NEC), UL standards, and other applicable codes and regulations.

Specify, program, and commission PLCs and HMI systems; collaborate with controls engineers and integrators to implement robust control strategies.

Coordinate UL testing and certification activities; work with manufacturers and third-party labs to resolve compliance issues.

Perform load calculations, short-circuit and coordination studies, fault current analysis, and equipment sizing.

Support procurement by preparing bill of materials, evaluating vendor submittals, and reviewing product datasheets for code and performance compliance.

Provide construction support including responding to RFIs, reviewing shop drawings, and conducting site visits during installation and commissioning.

Mentor and train junior engineers and drafters; lead technical reviews and enforce engineering standards and best practices.

Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, clients, and contractors to deliver projects on schedule and within budget.

QualificationsBachelors degree in Electrical Engineering or related field; Masters degree preferred.

Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.

Minimum 7+ years of electrical engineering experience in commercial or industrial projects, with progressive responsibility.

Proven experience with AutoCAD for creating and reviewing electrical drawings.

Working knowledge and hands-on experience with PLC programming and HMI configuration and commissioning.

Strong familiarity with the National Electrical Code (NEC) and experience applying code requirements to designs.

Experience with UL standards and navigating UL certification/testing processes.

Experience performing power system calculations, short-circuit analysis, and protective device coordination.

Excellent technical writing, communication, and project management skills; ability to lead teams and coordinate stakeholders.

Detail-oriented, with strong problem-solving skills and a commitment to safety and quality.
