Elkhart Brass and Fire Research Corp develop innovative electronics for the emergency vehicle market, including electric water cannons, lighting systems, pressure governors, sensor-based controls, and other mission-critical components. Our products help fire, EMS, and utility professionals operate more safely and efficiently in the field. We're growing and looking for a hands-on Electrical Engineer to help lead design, develop and maintain electric hardware for embedded electronic products.
Position Overview:
As an Electrical Engineer, you'll take ownership of the hardware design and development of embedded electronic products—from concepts through production. You'll lead electrical architecture decisions, oversee PCB development, and provide sustaining engineering support for mature products. This is a technical role for someone passionate about building reliable, field-ready products. Summary Design and develop embedded electronic systems for products such as electric water cannons, vehicle lighting, pressure governors, sensors, and control modules Drive hardware development, including schematic design, PCB layout functional and system level testing Collaborate with mechanical engineers, software developers, manufacturing engineers, and product managers to deliver robust, manufacturable solutions Designs and directs engineering personnel in fabrication of test control apparatus and equipment Determines methods, procedures, and conditions for testing products Directs activities to ensure that manufacturing, construction, installation, and operational testing conform to functional specifications and customer requirements Directs and coordinates operation, maintenance and repair of equipment and systems in field installations Uses computer assisted engineering and design software and equipment to perform engineering tasks Creates project timelines based on product specifications and manages projects to meeting commitments Provide technical support and guidance on determining root cause analysis of legacy products Interface with engineering team and vendors to implement new and modified design Provide frequent progress updates to manager to ensure the efficient and timely completion of specific project milestones

QUALIFICATIONS
Strong knowledge of microcontroller-based hardware design. (e.g. ARM and Microchip families of processors) Strong understanding of electronic design for
EMC / EMI
compliance preferred Hands-on experience with schematic capture and PCB layout tools (e.g., Altium) Strong understanding of communication protocols (CAN, I2C, SPI, UART, etc.) Experience integrating wireless technologies (Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Cellular, LoRa) preferred Strong understanding of DC motor control and driver integration Experience with test equipment such as signal generators, multimeters, oscilloscopes, etc. Hands-on experience with laboratory test and debug Experience working with diverse teams on multiple sites Proven ability to complete projects according to outlined scope, budget, and timeline Must be self-motivated, have good interpersonal skills, capable of analyzing and solving problems through innovative thought and experience Experience in an engineering environment with significant manufacturing exposure Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to deal with all levels of staff, suppliers, and operations Demonstrated success handling multiple priorities in changing environments Able to identify, and proactively remove obstacles to complete objectives Disciplined and well-organized in documentation of assigned projects Ability and willingness to travel to support project objectives 8+ years of experience implementing and maintaining embedded hardware systems BS or MS in Electrical Engineering
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, write, speak, and comprehend English Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to other employees of the organization in person, on the phone, and in writing
COMPUTER SKILLS
Proficiency in MS Office utilities Proficiency in schematic capture and PCB layout tools Altium preferred Internet based software
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The employee must have adequate hearing and visual acuity. The position requires being seated a good portion of the day. Employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 45 pounds. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
PPE REQUIREMENTS
In compliance with OSHA standards it has been determined that Safety glasses and footwear are required on the plant floor

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate Working environment is in an air-conditioned cubical with occasionally physically going into an unheated/air

WORK HOURS
Expected to work 40+ hours weekly Office Hours are generally 8am
