Job Title:
Control Engineer Job Description This position supports a global leader in magnet wire manufacturing as part of the Division Engineering and capital projects team. The Control Engineer focuses on the installation, integration, and commissioning of new automated equipment for expansion and pre-existing sites, working across multiple platforms to design, program, and support industrial control systems. This is a project-based role, not a reactive maintenance or factory firefighting position, and offers the opportunity to work with modern automation technologies in a growing organization. Responsibilities Install, integrate, and commission new automated machinery and control systems for expansion projects. Perform hands-on troubleshooting and programming of PLC applications, including Allen-Bradley, Siemens, and Omron platforms. Design electrical panels and control schematics using AutoCAD Electrical. Work cross-functionally with other engineering disciplines, skilled trades, and project managers to execute capital projects. Provide technical support for new industrial automated equipment, ensuring reliable and safe operation. Interface with internal and external technical resources to identify, specify, and procure required components and parts. Assist with the integration of machinery and control systems into the Ignition platform and other SCADA solutions. Apply control system design principles, including ladder logic and control system architecture, to develop robust automation solutions. Troubleshoot control systems, HMI applications, and electrical issues to minimize downtime and improve performance. Support Ethernet networking and machine communication requirements for connected equipment. Contribute to project planning, documentation, and coordination activities as part of the capital projects team. Essential Skills Associate degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Automation Engineering, or a closely related field. At least 5 years of experience programming and troubleshooting Allen-Bradley PLCs. At least 5 years of experience using AutoCAD or AutoCAD Electrical to create electrical panel designs and schematics. Strong hands-on experience with PLC troubleshooting, ladder logic, and control system design. Proficiency with Rockwell Automation platforms and Allen-Bradley PLC hardware and software. Experience with HMI programming and control system interfaces. Solid understanding of electrical systems related to industrial automation and control engineering. Experience with SCADA systems and integrating machines into supervisory control platforms. Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, including engineering, skilled trades, and project management. Strong troubleshooting skills for control systems, electrical issues, and automated machinery. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with Ignition or other SCADA platforms. Experience with medium-voltage equipment such as transformers, switchgear, and switchboards. Project management experience supporting capital or automation projects. Familiarity with Siemens and Omron PLCs and related programming environments. Experience with Ethernet networking and machine-to-machine communication in an industrial environment. Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced, project-based environment. Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders. Work Environment The role combines office and factory settings, with most time spent designing and planning control system projects and supporting equipment integration activities. Standard work hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The position involves approximately 40% travel to company sites in Canada, Tennessee, and Franklin, Indiana, to support installation, commissioning, and project execution. The environment includes exposure to industrial equipment and automated machinery, as well as regular use of engineering software tools such as AutoCAD Electrical, Rockwell platforms, Omron systems, and the Ignition SCADA platform. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Fort Wayne, IN. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $45.00 - $52.88/hr.
