Certification Engineer
II / III
(Electrical)
Position Summary:
We are seeking a Certification Engineer (Electrical) at either the Level II or Level III level to support certification of electrical and avionics systems for aircraft modifications and installations. This role will be filled based on candidate experience and qualifications. The selected candidate will contribute to or lead certification efforts, ensuring compliance with FAA, EASA, and other regulatory requirements. This position works cross-functionally with engineering, program management, and regulatory authorities to deliver compliant, high-quality certification artifacts. Level II engineers develop solutions to complex problems with some guidance and contribute to certification activities. Level III engineers act as senior technical leaders, driving certification strategy, mentoring team members, and interfacing directly with regulatory authorities.
Key Responsibilities For All Candidates:
Review engineering drawings and system designs for compliance with certification requirements Support development of certification artifacts, including: Certification plans Test plans (ground and flight) Conformity requests Compliance reports and checklists Perform or support electrical load analysis and system-level compliance activities Assist with certification schedule development and tracking of deliverables Support technical discussions with FAA and/or foreign regulatory authorities Collaborate with internal teams, suppliers, and customers Additional Responsibilities by
Level Certification Engineer II:
Execute certification tasks with moderate independence Assist in developing test plans, analyses, and compliance documentation Support resolution of technical and certification issues Contribute to process improvements and engineering tools
Certification Engineer III:
Lead certification efforts across programs or major work packages Define certification strategies and means of compliance for complex systems Serve as primary technical interface with FAA/ODA and regulatory authorities Lead electrical load analysis and system compliance approaches Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and oversight to junior engineers Drive resolution of complex certification and design issues, including root cause analysis Influence program-level decisions and certification planning Contribute to organizational process improvements and best practices
QualificationsEducation:
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or related field Master's degree preferred (Level III)
Experience:
Level II:
3+ years of electrical engineering experience 1+ year of certification experience (electrical/avionics preferred)
Level III:
7+ years of electrical engineering experience 3+ years of certification experience Demonstrated experience leading certification efforts or major work packages
Required Skills:
Strong technical, organizational, and problem-solving skills Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently Effective written and verbal communication skills Working knowledge of FAA, EASA, and/or TCCA certification requirements Experience with Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) Experience with CATIA V5 or similar CAD tools
Preferred Skills:
Expertise in: Electrical bonding and grounding
EMI / HIRF
Lightning protection Experience with Part 23 and/or Part 25 aircraft certification programs Experience developing certification strategies Experience working directly with regulatory authorities

Approximately 5-10% Opportunity to grow into technical leadership (Level II → Level III path)
