Job Title:
Electrical Engineer Job Description The Electrical Engineer supports day-to-day manufacturing operations with a strong focus on electrical systems, controls/automation, and machine vision. This is a hands-on, shop-floor-focused engineering role responsible for equipment reliability, automation improvements, and technical support of production systems. This individual will be in an assistant management level position and have a team of maintenance technicians reporting to them. Responsibilities Support the coaching and development of the maintenance team. Troubleshoot and improve electrical, PLC, HMI, servo, and automation systems on production equipment. Support and maintain machine vision systems used for in-line inspection and quality validation. Create and update electrical schematics, control documentation, and technical records. Identify automation and controls improvement opportunities to increase uptime, quality, and throughput. Collaborate daily with maintenance, engineering, and production teams on the plant floor. Essential Skills Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (or closely related discipline) or equivalent practical experience. 2-5 years of hands-on experience in controls engineering and industrial automation within manufacturing. Demonstrated experience with machine vision systems (Cognex, Keyence, Omron, or similar). Strong PLC, HMI, VFD/servo programming and troubleshooting capability. Ability to read and create electrical schematics and control documentation. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience supporting injection molding equipment or auxiliaries. Exposure to Cartesian or industrial robotics (Yushin, Wittmann, Star, etc.). Working knowledge of applicable electrical and safety standards (NEC, NFPA 79, OSHA). AutoCAD or electrical CAD experience. Familiarity with Lean manufacturing, TPM, or continuous improvement tools. Prior experience mentoring or guiding technicians. Work Environment The first 90 days will be on the floor identifying gaps within the current team, and will then transition to a 70/30 split of floor versus desk work. The role is primarily shop-floor-based with frequent interaction across engineering, maintenance, and production. It involves a mix of hands-on troubleshooting and engineering analysis/documentation. Exposure to production equipment, automation systems, and vision inspection platforms is expected. Requires standing, walking, and occasional lifting (up to 50 lbs) on the manufacturing floor. Potential on-call duties may arise, with the possibility of being called in 2-3 times over a year, potentially increasing as the business grows. The work schedule is Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Employees are entitled to 2 weeks of PTO and 6 federal holidays. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Lexington, KY. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $38.46 - $40.86/hr.
