Company is seeking an Electrical Engineer to join the Electrical Engineering Services team in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. This role is ideal for an engineer with more than 5 years of relevant industrial experience who can work independently on moderately complex assignments, support multiple projects, and contribute to successful project delivery within an EPC environment.
Job Summary:
The Electrical Engineer is responsible for the design, analysis, and execution of electrical engineering work for industrial facilities. This position applies electrical engineering principles to develop project deliverables, perform system studies, support equipment selection, and coordinate with internal disciplines, vendors, and clients through design and construction phases. The ideal candidate will have more than 5 years of relevant experience in industrial or EPC projects, including experience with power distribution, MCCs, switchgear, and related electrical systems. An Engineer Intern (EI) certification is required, and a Professional Engineer (PE) license is preferred. Candidates should be comfortable performing work with limited supervision, handling moderately complex assignments, and contributing technical guidance to less experienced team members.
Essential Functions:
Prepare electrical engineering deliverables including single lines, wiring diagrams, equipment specifications, calculations, and technical reports. Design and analyze industrial electrical systems, including MCCs, switchgear, low- and medium-voltage distribution, and associated equipment. Support development of material requisitions, equipment data sheets, and procurement packages. Review vendor drawings, technical submittals, and equipment documentation for compliance with project requirements. Coordinate electrical design activities with process, mechanical, civil, structural, instrumentation, and project management teams. Interface with clients, contractors, and vendors to clarify technical requirements and support project execution. Assist with field investigations, site visits, construction support, startup, and commissioning activities as required. Review contractor submittals and respond to RFIs during construction. Apply NEC, IEEE, and other applicable codes, standards, and client specifications in engineering work. Manage personal work assignments to meet scope, schedule, budget, and quality expectations across multiple projects. Promote safe work practices in office and field environments. Perform other duties as assigned.
Management/Supervisory Responsibility:
This position does not typically have direct supervisory responsibility, but it may provide project-based technical guidance to junior engineers, designers, or drafters.
Skills & Qualifications:
Working knowledge of industrial electrical system design and engineering documentation. Experience with MCCs, switchgear, power distribution, and industrial facility design. Understanding of NEC, IEEE, and commonly used industry standards. Ability to work independently on moderately complex assignments and collaborate effectively with multidiscipline teams. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 applications. Travel:
Site visits may be required, sometimes with limited notice. Overnight travel and travel between office or project locations may be required based on project needs. Valid driver's license and ability to meet company driving requirements; TWIC eligibility required. Must be able to pass background screening and applicable drug and alcohol testing requirements. Must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited engineering program required. Minimum of 5 years of relevant electrical engineering experience in an industrial, manufacturing, plant, or EPC environment required. Engineer Intern (EI) certification required. Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred. Experience with industrial power studies, MCCs, switchgear, and construction support is preferred.
Work Environment:
Normal business office environment with moderate noise. The position typically performs tasks within assigned office facility but may require site visits to customer facilities and other office locations. Occasionally, may visit or be temporarily assigned to work in an operating plant or at a construction site. This may require exposure to outdoor weather conditions, loud noise, work near moving mechanical parts, electrical energy, construction equipment, vibration, fumes, chemicals, and airborne particles. For site visits, safety glasses and other safety equipment are required depending on task. Orion will provide all personnel with standard safety equipment.
Physical Demands:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. Occasionally, may conduct or participate in a field trip to an operating plant or construction site. This requires normal hearing, the ability to stand, walk, reach, climb and balance, clear close and distance vision, depth perception and the ability to focus. Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboard. Must be able to bend, stoop and climb on a ladder or up and down stairs. Must be able to drive a company vehicle to and from job sites or office locations. Must be able to attend job walks wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) in an operating facility in a hot climate. Lifting up to 25 pounds may be required.
Work Schedule:
Employee work schedules are determined by the needs of the department and/or production. Core working hours are established to ensure that all necessary functions are covered efficiently. While these core hours are fixed, there may be some flexibility in start and end times to accommodate individual needs, provided that departmental requirements are met.
