This role involves applying core engineering principles to support electrical systems design, rapid prototyping, and cross-system integration, while collaborating within multi-functional teams to advance laboratory automation. What You'll Be Building Contribute to the design and implementation of electrical solutions using CAD tools and design software to produce wiring schematics and support system optimization. Assist in designing and building prototypes, applying agile methodologies to test and iterate on electrical systems and components for novel scientific instruments. Work alongside senior engineers and scientists to help convert manual benchtop workflows into automated solutions in an R D setting. Support the development of process instrumentation, sensors, and field-level control devices to ensure precision and reliability in system performance. Create, update, and maintain engineering documentation for assigned projects, including wiring schematics, test plans, instrument I/O lists, and results analysis. Perform calibration, testing, troubleshooting, and validation of electrical systems to ensure performance, accuracy, and safety standards are met. Support multi-team automation projects by independently executing assigned technical tasks, meeting milestones, and adhering to engineering best practices. Engage with cross-functional teams to gather requirements and deliver engineering solutions, raising risks early and sharing findings proactively. What You'll Need to Succeed 1-4 years of experience in electrical systems design, integration, or a closely related engineering discipline (co-op and internship experience counts). Foundational knowledge of CAD software and electrical design tools such as SolidWorks Electrical or AutoCAD Electrical. Familiarity with industrial electrical safety standards such as UL508A and
IEC 60204-1.
Basic understanding of integration technologies including embedded controllers, PLCs, HMIs, and relevant controls principals. Solid troubleshooting fundamentals with hands-on experience using electrical test equipment such as oscilloscopes and multimeters. Effective communication and collaborative skills for working within project teams and with internal stakeholders. Strong attention to detail, commitment to quality, and willingness to raise risks early. Bonus Points For Degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related field. Experience or coursework in a scientific, R D, or life science environment with exposure to laboratory automation. Familiarity with SCADA systems, BMS, or EMS platforms in a lab or industrial setting. Exposure to Industry 4.0 concepts and IoT integration for smart laboratory solutions. Basic understanding of industrial networking concepts (IP addressing, OT/IT network separation). Experience reading and interpreting P&ID diagrams and control narratives.
