National Grid is hiring a Lead Engineer (Electrical Planning and Design), Electrical Engineering Hybrid, local to Northbor, Massachusetts.

Job Purpose As an Engineer in DC&I, you will help drive National Grid's ESMP-aligned Grid Modernization initiatives. You'll participate in the specification, design, and implementation of advanced grid technologies, with a special emphasis on Distributed Energy Resource Management Systems (DERMS), DER Gateway solutions, Volt/VAR Optimization (VVO), and other intelligent grid applications. Key Accountabilities Support the deployment, integration, and maintenance of DERMS platforms and DER Gateway solutions, enabling secure, scalable, and interoperable management and control of distributed energy resources. Develop, validate, and optimize Volt/VAR Optimization (VVO) and Conservation Voltage Reduction (CVR) schemes to improve grid efficiency and reliability. Evaluate new technologies, participate in equipment specification and selection, and perform end-to-end solution design, including validation and testing of advanced control systems. Advance automation systems (e.g., FLISR, fault location, auto-transfer, advanced protection schemes), program automation platforms, and integrate devices such as RTUs, reclosers, voltage regulators, and data concentrators. Support design, integration, and optimization of field area network communications using serial and ethernet-based devices. Work closely with
SCADA/EMS
teams to integrate control systems and technologies into applications for system operators and engineers. Contribute to project planning and delivery of intelligent grid tools in line with ESMP vision, standards, and policies. Build relationships with industry peers to stay current on technical innovations. Develop and implement methods to leverage new energy resources and demand response systems for day-to-day business operations. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science from an accredited institution. 7 or more years of related technical experience. Ability to innovate in planning and operating electric supply/distribution systems using advanced analytics and emerging technologies. Knowledge of control system technologies, programming, configuration, testing, and troubleshooting. Strong communication and influencing skills; able to present technical concepts to diverse audiences. Willingness to work flexible hours and travel as needed. More Information Salary - $156,000 - $183,000 This position has a career path which provides for advancement opportunities within and across bands as you develop and evolve in the position; gaining experience, expertise and acquiring and applying technical skills.
