POSITION SUMMARY
The Power Plant Trades Co-op will assist the operations and maintenance team in supporting the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of the facility's central utility systems. This role offers hands-on experience in a live power plant environment, including exposure to steam generation, chilled water systems, electrical distribution, and energy management systems. Ideal for students pursuing careers in mechanical, electrical, or energy-related trades.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist licensed plant operators and tradespeople with daily operations and maintenance of boilers, chillers, pumps, and auxiliary equipment.
- Monitor system performance and assist with data logging, meter readings, and basic diagnostics.
- Support routine inspections and preventive maintenance tasks.
- Help maintain cleanliness and organization of mechanical rooms and plant areas.
- Learn and follow safety protocols related to high-pressure steam, electrical systems, and confined spaces.
- Participate in troubleshooting and repair of mechanical and electrical systems under supervision.
- Assist with documentation of work orders, maintenance logs, and compliance records.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Enrollment in a vocational, technical, or engineering program with a focus on HVAC, mechanical systems, electrical systems, or energy technologies.
- Basic understanding of mechanical and electrical principles.
- Ability to work in industrial environments with exposure to heat, noise, and mechanical equipment.
- Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work on ladders or in tight spaces.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
PREFERRED SKILLS
- Familiarity with boiler or chiller systems.
- Experience with tools and equipment used in mechanical or electrical trades.
- Basic computer skills for data entry and system monitoring.
