We are seeking a Systems Controls Engineer to support the design, development, and implementation of scalable controls architectures for complex material handling systems. This role will work closely with Systems Architects and cross-functional engineering teams to develop robust, reusable controls solutions that support Integrator Ready products and large-scale customer systems. This position is ideal for an engineer who enjoys solving complex automation challenges, developing high-quality PLC software, and contributing to scalable system designs that can be deployed across multiple projects and customer applications. Responsibilities:
Controls System Development & Architecture Support
Partner with Systems Architects and engineering teams to develop scalable controls solutions for integrated material handling systems
Design, develop, and maintain PLC-based control architectures and reusable software standards
Support the development of controls strategies and engineering standards for integrated systems
Contribute to modular controls building blocks and product libraries for reuse across future projects
Assist in evaluating and integrating third-party technologies and controls platforms
Support continuous improvement of systems engineering processes, controls standards, and development tools PLC Programming & System Integration
Develop and troubleshoot PLC applications for conveyors, sortation systems, and automated material handling equipment
Support HMI development and machine-level operator interfaces as needed
Configure and support industrial communication networks and interfaces
Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and software engineers to ensure seamless system integration
Support commissioning, startup, and validation activities for integrated systems
Assist with system testing, debugging, and performance optimization Engineering Execution
Participate in requirements development and technical design reviews
Support functional decomposition of systems into controls components and subsystems
Develop documentation including controls narratives, functional specifications, test plans, and commissioning procedures
Coordinate with project teams to support engineering schedules, technical deliverables, and implementation efforts
Provide technical support during installation and field startup activities
Stay current with industry trends, automation technologies, and controls best practices Qualifications:
Required Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Mechatronics, Systems Engineering, or related field
5+ years of experience in industrial controls engineering, automation, or material handling systems
Strong experience programming PLC systems (Allen-Bradley/Rockwell and/or Siemens)
Ability to troubleshoot controls systems across software, electrical, and mechanical domains
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams and fast-paced environments
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Self-managed individual with strong ownership mindset and attention to detail
Ability to travel up to 20-30% Preferred
Experience in material handling, warehouse automation, or industrial automation environments
Experience with electrical design, electrical schematics, or control panel layouts
Familiarity with HMI development platforms
Experience with industrial communication protocols such as EtherNet/IP, Modbus, Profinet, or similar
Experience supporting commissioning and startup of automated systems
Exposure to systems engineering methodologies or scalable controls architectures
Familiarity with robotics integration, motion systems, or automated equipment Why Join Intralox

The position is eligible for one of the following: commissions, discretionary incentives, or production incentives according to the terms of those plans
Salary Range $75,000 to $192,300.
