Job Title:
Electrical Engineer - Transformers & Switchgear Job Summary We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Electrical Engineer with specialized expertise in power transformers and switchgear systems. This role is responsible for the design, development, analysis, testing, and support of medium- and high-voltage electrical equipment used in power generation, transmission, distribution, and industrial applications. The ideal candidate will collaborate cross-functionally with manufacturing, quality, sales, and field service teams to ensure safe, reliable, and compliant electrical solutions. Key Responsibilities Design and engineer power and distribution transformers and switchgear systems (low, medium, and/or high voltage) in accordance with customer requirements and industry standards Prepare and review electrical schematics, layouts, BOMs, specifications, and technical drawings Perform electrical calculations including short-circuit, thermal, insulation coordination, load flow, and protection studies Ensure compliance with applicable standards and codes (ANSI, IEEE, IEC, NEC, NEMA, UL, CSA) Support manufacturing and assembly by resolving technical issues, reviewing deviations, and improving designs for manufacturability Collaborate with sales and project teams to provide technical support, proposals, and cost-effective design solutions Oversee or support testing and commissioning, including routine, type, and special tests Investigate and resolve field issues or failures, providing root cause analysis and corrective actions Develop and maintain technical documentation, manuals, and engineering change notices (ECNs) Participate in continuous improvement initiatives related to product design, quality, and safety Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (or related field) 3-10+ years of experience in transformer and/or switchgear engineering (experience level may vary by role) Strong understanding of power systems, protection, and high-voltage equipment Proficiency in electrical design tools (e.g., AutoCAD, EPLAN, ETAP, SKM, or similar software) Familiarity with manufacturing processes for transformers and switchgear Ability to interpret technical standards, specifications, and customer requirements Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills Preferred Qualifications Professional Engineer (PE) license Experience with custom-engineered or made-to-order power equipment Knowledge of utility, industrial, renewable energy, or data center applications Experience with testing standards and factory acceptance testing (FATs) Project engineering or customer-facing technical support experience Master Electrician or Licensed Electrician Work Environment & Physical Requirements Combination of office and manufacturing-floor environment Travel to customer sites or field locations may be required Ability to work safely around high-voltage equipment with proper trainingPay:
