Hastings, Michigan, United States Talascend is currently seeking an Associate Distribution Engineer for a contract opportunity with our client in Hastings, Michigan. Overview The successful candidate will be involved in electric utility design engineering, focusing on developing work packages for overhead, underground, and street light projects, ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards, and supporting construction activities. This role offers opportunities for professional development, including certifications and mentorship programs. Responsibilities Develop design and construction work packages for electrical overhead and underground distribution systems operating from 4kV through 138kV.
Ensure compliance with safety regulations and quality expectations.
Travel to sites as needed and perform inspections.
Perform engineering calculations such as structural analysis, conductor sag and tension, voltage drop, and flicker.
Develop permitting documents for various authorities having jurisdiction (AHJs).
Provide engineering support during construction and conduct post-construction reviews.
Conduct root cause analysis of outages and implement mitigation strategies.
Work on utility coordination, field and office engineering tasks, and design development for complex projects. Qualifications Completed Bachelor of Science in an engineering discipline (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial) from an ABET-accredited institution.
Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
Ability to utilize a personal vehicle for job-related travel.
Willingness to perform both field and office work, including outdoor environments.
Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. Preferred Qualifications Experience with distribution design tools such as BOUD, Pole Foreman, SOCKET, Spida-Calc, or similar.
Experience using CAD tools, MicroStation, and/or GIS.
Experience with NESC standards and design standards.
