About the CompanyA technical services organization specializing in mechanical systems, electrical systems, and predictive maintenance is seeking a skilled Controls Engineer to support its growing operations. The company provides advanced preventive maintenance services including alignment, vibration routes, fan balancing, motor circuit evaluation (MCE), ultrasonic testing, and thermal imaging routes. The Controls Engineer will play a key role in integrating these diagnostic capabilities with building automation and control systems.
Position SummaryThe Controls Engineer is responsible for designing, programming, troubleshooting, and optimizing control systems for commercial and industrial facilities. This role supports both project execution and preventive maintenance programs by ensuring that control systems operate reliably, efficiently, and in alignment with mechanical and electrical system performance data.
Key ResponsibilitiesDesign, program, and commission building automation and control systems.
Integrate mechanical and electrical equipment data into control platforms.
Support predictive maintenance programs including alignment, vibration analysis, fan balancing, MCE testing, ultrasonic testing, and thermal imaging.
Diagnose and resolve control system issues including sensors, actuators, PLCs, VFDs, and communication networks.
Develop and update control sequences, logic, and system documentation.
Perform field investigations to verify system performance and identify optimization opportunities.
Collaborate with technicians, engineers, and project managers to support system upgrades and retrofits.
Provide technical support for equipment monitoring, trending, and data interpretation.
Ensure compliance with industry standards, safety requirements, and customer specifications.
Participate in commissioning, functional testing, and system validation.
Support customer training and provide ongoing technical assistance.
QualificationsStrong understanding of HVAC, mechanical, or industrial control systems.
Experience with PLCs, DDC systems, VFDs, and control communication protocols.
Ability to interpret mechanical, electrical, and control drawings.
Familiarity with predictive maintenance technologies such as vibration analysis, alignment, ultrasonic testing, and thermal imaging.
Proficiency in control system programming and troubleshooting.
Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
Excellent communication and documentation abilities.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in the field.
Bachelors degree in Engineering, Controls, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field preferred.
