Job Description

Plant Electrical Engineer Other Area(s) Columbus, Mississippi Direct Hire Mar 20, 2026 Plant Electrical Engineer Columbus, MS. Full time with benefits. $70 - 100K DOE. We are seeking a highly skilled Plant Electrical Engineer to support the critical commissioning and startup of our greenfield facility. This role will serve as a key technical leader, ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient transition from construction to full-scale operations while optimizing long-term plant performance. Key Responsibilities Provide hands-on engineering leadership during commissioning and startup; troubleshoot complex equipment issues and optimize process control logic to minimize downtime. Oversee and coordinate external contractors for electrical installations, repairs, and capital upgrades, ensuring compliance with safety standards and technical specifications. Act as the subject matter expert (SME) for medium- and low-voltage power distribution systems, motor control centers (MCCs), and plant instrumentation. Support programming, troubleshooting, and optimization of PLC systems (Rockwell, Siemens) and HMI platforms (FactoryTalk/RSView, Ignition). Develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs), as well as repair and rebuild standards for the electrical maintenance team. Manage the full lifecycle of electrical capital projects, including design (P&IDs), budgeting, execution, commissioning, and handoff. Identify and implement opportunities to improve equipment reliability, reduce operating costs, and enhance labor efficiency. Provide support during production demands, planned shutdowns, and emergency situations, including working extended hours as needed. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field from an accredited institution. Minimum of 3 years of experience in industrial power distribution, electrical system design, and troubleshooting. Strong knowledge of power distribution systems, including switchgear, transformers, AC/DC motors, motor controls, and drives. Proven ability to develop technical specifications, requirements, and P&ID diagrams for process and equipment improvement projects. Expertise in NFPA 70E, arc flash safety, and OSHA Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) standards. Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot automation, communication, and HMI-related issues and implement effective corrective actions. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively across multiple disciplines. Self-motivated with a strong desire to learn, grow, and take on new challenges. Willingness to work extended hours as required to support operations. Preferred Qualifications Experience in heavy industrial environments such as biomass, chemical processing, pulp and paper, or steel manufacturing. A resume is required!
