Job OverviewA well-established, employee-focused consulting engineering firm is seeking a Senior Project Electrical Engineer to join its Water / Wastewater Practice. The firm is known for delivering technically robust, sustainable solutions for municipal infrastructure and fostering an environment where engineers can take ownership of their work and grow long-term.

This role offers the opportunity to work on complex municipal water and wastewater projects, contributing to the design, delivery, and optimisation of treatment and pumping facilities that directly support community infrastructure. However, Water/Wastewater experience isn't a must. This position can be based out of Charlotte, Raleigh or Wilmington, NC Position SummaryThe Project Electrical Engineer will support and lead electrical engineering efforts on municipal water and wastewater projects, including treatment plants, pump stations, and related utility infrastructure. The role involves close collaboration with project managers and multidisciplinary teams to deliver projects on time and within budget, while maintaining technical excellence and client engagement.

Day-to-Day ResponsibilitiesYou will perform electrical engineering tasks across the full project lifecycle, including planning, design, review, and construction support for municipal water and wastewater facilities.
Responsibilities include:
Leading electrical design efforts from concept through constructionDeveloping electrical plans and specifications and delegating tasks to junior engineersProviding technical guidance and oversight to project team membersPerforming QA/QC reviews and coordinating with other engineering disciplinesInterfacing directly with municipal clients and participating in technical discussionsPreparing technical reports, specifications, drawing packages, and permit submittalsCoordinating RFIs, submittals, change orders, and construction-phase issuesBalancing multiple projects and priorities simultaneouslyParticipating in site visits, agency coordination meetings, and municipal meetings as requiredAnalysing systems and processes to improve efficiency, quality, and cost effectivenessSupporting start-up, commissioning, and field investigations as neededRequired QualificationsBachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related disciplineProfessional Engineer (PE) licence or ability to obtain licensure6-10 years of professional electrical engineering experienceProven experience designing medium- and low-voltage electrical distribution systemsExperience with electrical equipment including MCCs, generators, switchgear, and standby power systemsAbility to produce single-line diagrams, motor control schematics, and instrument loop diagramsExperience with area classification plans and equipment specification in classified environmentsProficiency with generator sizing tools (e.g. Caterpillar, Cummins) and emergency power system designExperience reviewing and redlining electrical drawings completed by junior staffStrong working knowledge of NEC and NFPA 780Arc flash analysis experience using tools such as ETAP or SKMProficiency with AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, and/or RevitStrong command of Microsoft Word, Excel, and OutlookField investigation, construction support, and start-up experience preferredAbility to manage multiple assignments across concurrent projectsStrong organisational, communication, and collaboration skillsAbility to work independently while contributing effectively to a team environmentValid driver's licence and ability to meet standard pre-employment requirementsPreferred ExperienceExperience coordinating with local, state, and federal permitting agencies within the United StatesPrior involvement in municipal infrastructure projects with public-sector clients
