Associate Distribution Engineer Location:
Greensboro, NC (Hybrid Office/Field)Duration:
6-Month Contract (Potential for extension)Pay Rate:
$29.81/hr W2 Role Overview We are seeking an Associate Distribution Engineer to design and develop construction work packages for electrical overhead (OH) and underground (UG) distribution systems. This role is ideal for an entry-level engineer looking to build a career in the utility sector. You will receive hands-on training in utility engineering standards and work on complex projects ranging from 4kV to 138kV.Core Responsibilities Engineering Design:
Develop work packages for OH, UG, URD, Make-Ready, and Street Light projects using GIS and Work Management Systems (WMS).Technical Analysis:
Perform critical engineering calculations, including structural wood pole loading, guying, conductor sag/tension, and voltage drop/flicker analysis.Field Engineering:
Conduct site inspections to gather data, assess conflicting utilities, and develop design packages for dense urban environments.Project Support:
Manage programmatic work such as overloaded transformer replacements, inspection reports, and joint-use projects.Permitting & Compliance:
Develop permitting documents for various Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) and assist with Right-of-Way (ROW) applications.Construction Support:
Provide technical support during construction and perform post-construction reviews to ensure standards are met. Requirements (Background)Education:
Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial preferred) from an ABET accredited institution.Communication:
Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.Field Readiness:
Willingness to perform both field and office work, including working in outdoor environments.Mobility:
Must have a personal vehicle for local travel to project sites (reimbursed at IRS rates).Tech Savvy:
Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook). Preferred Skills (Nice-to-Have) Experience with distribution tools: PoleForeman, Spida-Calc, BOUD, or SOCKET . Familiarity with GE Smallworld, Maximo, Bentley Expert Designer , or MicroStation . Knowledge of the National Electric Safety Code (NESC) .Similar remote jobs
