Basic Purpose Provides engineering design and support services for the electronics and software required to control and manage power generation, automatic generation control and real time energy management. Conceives, develops and implements unique solutions to controls problems. Provides technical direction and project support to plant or control center staff on controls matters. Essential Education, Skills, and Environment Education and Work Experience Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university in engineering, computer science, information systems, or related field and 8 years industry experience as a practicing engineer, and must be a licensed PE. If no PE license, must have 10 years as a practicing engineer. Specialized Knowledge and Skills Demonstrated knowledge of: Control system logic, configuration and design control loops Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) Computer networking, such as switches, firewalls, routers, and network ports (TCP, UDP) Experience with historian, predictive and performance monitoring systems and current smart field instrumentation Industrial Control Systems (ICS), Distributed Control Systems (DCS) Experience in generation plant processes or transmission and distribution processes.

Analytical, problem solving, decision making, and interpersonal Process thinking Self-starting, time management, organizational Communication, oral and written, of technical issues Communication of technical issues to a non-technical audience Equipment and Applications PCs, word processing, spreadsheet, and database software. Work Environment and Physical Demands General office environment. May require work near moving parts, in outdoor weather conditions, and near extreme heat. Some exposure to loud noises is required. Depending on qualifications of applicants, this position may be filled at a lower level such as Sr. Engineer, Engineer II or I. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Provides control system software and hardware support to ensure safe, optimal and reliable operations. Works with Operations and corporate technical staff to assist with troubleshooting, determining solutions, and supporting corrective actions for instrumentation and programming logic issues. Works with Operations and corporate technical staff to develop and implement control system logic, display modifications and custom functions. Works with the control system software vendors to resolve issues that have escalated for product support. Oversees the plant industrial control systems, ensuring they are able to reliably meet the dispatch demand requirements. Leads the development of operating and maintenance standards to improve operating reliability, flexibility, and efficiency of generating facilities. Inspects and evaluates generating equipment and process conditions and prepares forward projections of operating and maintenance requirements to optimize production. Develops the business cases, scoping documents, budgets, and schedules, as well as the testing, installation and commissioning for control system projects. Communicates with project managers and attend meetings to keep up-to-date information about upcoming projects, process improvement and root cause analysis teams. Performs the routine aspects of assignments requiring knowledge and application of basic engineering principles. Provides after-hours support on call basis. Provides outage support and delivers on continuous performance/reliability improvement initiatives. Provides comprehensive training to operating, maintenance, and engineering staff as needed for power generation fleet. Provides technical review of new generation and delivery acquisitions and construction. Ensures all compliance aspects of position are known and followed; understands and complies with all policies, codes, and regulations applicable to position and company.
