The company develops systems integrated onto fire apparatus, including electric water cannons, vehicle lighting, pressure governors, sensors, and control modules. This is a hands-on technical role with ownership across the full product development lifecycle, from initial concept through production release and sustaining engineering support for fielded products. - $125,000 Per Year What You'll Do In this role, you will own the electrical architecture and hardware development process for embedded electronic products across the company's first responder product line.
Your work will span schematic design, PCB layout direction, functional testing, and system-level validation. You will define and direct the methods, procedures, and conditions used to test products, and you will ensure that manufacturing, construction, installation, and operational testing all conform to functional specifications and customer requirements. You will use computer-aided engineering and design software throughout the design and validation process. Collaboration is a core part of this position. You will work closely with mechanical engineers, software developers, manufacturing engineers, and product managers to deliver solutions that are both technically sound and manufacturable at scale. You will direct engineering personnel in the fabrication of test control apparatus and equipment, coordinate field installation and operational testing activities, and interface with vendors to implement new and modified designs. You will also direct and coordinate operation, maintenance, and repair of equipment and systems in field installations as needed. Project management and communication are expected at a senior level. You will create project timelines based on product specifications, manage projects to meet commitments, and provide regular progress updates to your manager on specific milestone completions. You will also provide technical guidance on root cause analysis for legacy products and serve as a go-to resource for the engineering team on embedded hardware challenges. Required Qualifications Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering 5 or more years of experience implementing and maintaining embedded hardware systems Strong knowledge of microcontroller-based hardware design, including ARM and Microchip processor families Hands-on experience with schematic capture and PCB layout tools, including Altium or equivalent Strong understanding of communication protocols including CAN, I2C, SPI, and UART Experience with DC motor control and driver integration Proficiency with laboratory test equipment including signal generators, oscilloscopes, and multimeters Hands-on experience with lab-based test, debug, and bring-up Proven ability to manage projects to scope, budget, and timeline Experience working with cross-functional and multi-site engineering teams Disciplined documentation practices across all assigned projects Authorization to work in the United States (US citizen or permanent resident) Preferred Qualifications Strong understanding of electronic design for EMC and EMI compliance Experience integrating wireless technologies including Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Cellular, or LoRa Background in ruggedized or field-deployed product development, particularly for emergency services, automotive, or industrial environments Familiarity with fire apparatus systems, vehicle electronics, or first responder equipment Experience in a manufacturing-adjacent engineering environment with direct production exposure Compensation and Benefits Competitive base salary commensurate with experience Performance bonus Medical, dental, and vision insurance 401(k) retirement plan Paid time off To Apply Submit your resume along with a brief summary of your embedded hardware design experience and relevant product background.
